Weekly Newsletter – October 17

Good Morning! We are in the final week of the first grading period. Crazy to think about! I hope you all had a wonderful (slightly longer) weekend and that you got to enjoy the beautiful weather. Here are a few things to know for this week.

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are working on writing a good paragraph. We are using the idea of “Hamburger Writing” to help us to do that. Basically, a good hamburger has more than the meat and bun. It has toppings. In the same way our paragraphs should have more than just a beginning, middle, and end. They should have details!

Math: We are working on regrouping in subtraction this week.

Reading: We are continuing to work our way through Ramona Quimby this week. We are going to be reading chapters 3 and 4.

Bible: We are continuing to learn about Abraham and Isaac this week. Also, I dropped the ball and forgot about the Bible Quiz last weekend. Between Grandparents Day, the intruder drill, and fire safety I started losing my mind. Instead of trying to catch up and take one today when some may not have studied, we are going to take one of Friday with all of the books from the Old Testament. So we are adding Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Thanks for understanding!

Social Studies: This week we are wrapping up maps. We are going to be making a map of Ohio to finish out our unit.

Spelling: We do have a test this week! We are learning about words with the “r” sound.

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Luke 2:4 – So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

Next Week’s Verse: Luke 2:5 – He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

Spelling Words: airport, skirts, chair, early, answer, upstairs, heard, fearful, thirteen, shepherd, nearly, together, stir, silver, first, learn, stairs, covered, engine, symbol. Bonus: fascinating

Odds and Ends:

End of the Grading Period: The last day of the grading period is Friday. Reports cards will be handed out at conferences.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Time slots went home in today’s folder. See you all next week!

No School: There is no school Friday, October 28 due to a teacher in-service day.

I think that is it! Have a great week!
