Weekly Newsletter – May 22

Happy last full week of school! I can’t believe how quickly this school year flew by and that we are already in our last full week. There is a lot going on in the next few days so please make sure you read carefully.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: Today we wrapped our pronouns and fragments with small quiz. That is it for English for the year!

Reading: This week we will be doing a few review projects. We are also going to be making third grade memory books!

Math: We wrapped up math last week, so this week we will spend some time reviewing in groups.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about the continents and oceans. We will have a labeling quiz on Friday! I will send home a review sheet today and we are practicing in class.

Bible: We have been doing a brief overview of the life of Daniel and we will finish that up this week.

Spelling: We do have a test this week. It is review words so we do not have spelling homework.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 121: 1-2 – I lift my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. THIS IS DUE ON THURSDAY!!!!

Odds and Ends:

Homework Logs: Homework logs were turned in today and there is no more XtraMath and reading for the rest of the year!

Library Books: A few students are still missing library books. I believe reminders went home on Friday. Library books must be returned or paid for by the end of the year in order for students to receive their report card.

Field Trip: Our field trip is on Wednesday! Reminders are going home in today’s folders.

No School: We do not have school next Monday because of Memorial Day.

Field Day: A paper went home last week asking for Field Day volunteers. If you are willing to help please send that paper back in as soon as possible or contact the office.

Report Cards: We will be sending these home the last day of school. Another reminder:  if your student is missing a library book their report card will be held until that is paid for or returned 🙂

Awards and the Last Day of School: Awards Chapel will be at 9:15 on May 30th. The last day of school is May 31st. We dismiss early that day at 12:00.

Weekly Newsletter – May 15

Good Morning! We have 11 and a half days of school left! Crazy to think about. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful weather. Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are wrapping up pronouns and fragments this week. We will review on Thursday and we will have a quiz on Monday.

Reading: This week we are working on summaries and conclusions, doing some vocabulary, and working on our alphabet books! We are coming to the end of these and they are looking so good!

Math: We are wrapping up multiplication with two and three digits this week. We have added some regrouping to what we are doing as well. We will have a test either Thursday or Friday.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about the continents and oceans. Students will need to memorize these and we will be having a quiz next Friday. We will be doing plenty of review in class as well!

Bible: We are going to do a quick 2 week unit over the life of Daniel. We will be focusing on Daniel in captivity and in the lion’s den.

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday. Our words all have the ei or eigh pattern.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Odds and Ends:

Class Chapel: Thank you for coming to watch our class chapel! All your kids did such a great job and I am so proud of them!

Library Books: All library books are due back TOMORROW! Please make sure to send those in. If your student is missing a library book their report card will be held until the book is returned or paid for. Thanks!

End of the Year Picnic: The school end of the year picnic is Friday May 19th. Please contact the office to RSVP or for details.

Field Trip: Our spring field trip will be May 24th and we are going to the Great Lakes Science Center! I will send home a few more details next Monday.

No School: No School May 29th for Memorial Day.

Weekly Newsletter – March 27

Good Morning! It looks like spring just might be here to stay. I am very ready for some warmer weather! Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

*Because it is testing week, we are keeping things pretty low key. We will keep working on math and our Alphabet books.

*We do have a states test tomorrow and we will still have timed tests this week.

 

Spelling Words and Bible Verse:

No Spelling Test this week

This Week’s Verse: I had originally said we would do a Bible verse this week, but we will skip this week and do one next week.

Next Week’s Verse: 1 Timothy 4:12 – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

 

Odds and Ends:

Testing Week: Just a reminder to make sure your student gets lots of rest this week!

Friday: This Friday is our PJ/Movie/Sundae Party! Students can come dressed in (school appropriate) pajamas. They can also bring a blanket or stuffed animal for the movie. Then after the movie we will celebrate with our Multiplication Sundae Party! I am still in need of a few items for the party. You can sign up here!

Report Card Envelopes: Please get these sent back in as soon as possible.

Homework: This week there is no XtraMath or reading that needs to be done.

Easter Party: Our class Easter Party will be next Friday at 2:30. Feel free to join us!

Helicopter Egg Drop: Saturday April 8th Grace Church is hosting the Helicopter Egg Drop and we would love for you to join us! The eggs will drop at 11:00. Click here for more details. Hope to see you there!

Spring Break: Spring Break is April 10th-14th. Happy Easter!

Weekly Newsletter – March 13

Good Morning! As of Thursday of this week, we will be 3/4 of the way through the year! Crazy to think about. Here are a few things to note this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

Bible: Still learning about Joseph!

Reading: We started biographies last week and we will be finishing those up this week. We are also continuing to work on our alphabet books.

Math: Last week we started our unit on measurement. We are continuing that this week. We are learning about miles, ounces, pounds, centimeters, and decimeters. We will have a timed test on Tuesday this week.

Social Studies: We are taking our states test tomorrow (NE, SE, MW). We will be learning about the Southwest region this week.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week on THURSDAY. Our words this week deal with different suffixes.

*We are also doing some testing practice this week to help us get ready for Testing Week in 2 weeks.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 23:6 – Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Next Week’s Verse:  2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Spelling Words: dentist, editor, artist, hostess, actress, swimmer, seller, tutor, tourist, organist, lioness, shipper, chemist, investor, conductor, announcer, pharmacist, journalist, commuter, pianist. Bonus: mathematician

 

Odds and Ends:

Re-Enrollment Packets: Packets went home a few weeks ago! If you have any questions please contact the office.

Class Pictures: We will be taking our class picture Wednesday March 15. If you would like to order one please return the order form by picture day.

No School: There is no school this Friday due to a teacher in service day.

Third Quarter: The end of the 3rd quarter is on Thursday! Grade cards will be going home the 24th.

Testing Week: Testing will be March 27-31. Please make sure that as you are scheduling doctors appointments, etc that you try to avoid that week. It is very hard to make up tests so we want to avoid that as much as possible. Thanks!

Sundae Party: We are scheduling our multiplication Sundae Party! We decided that the best way to end testing week was with a party so we will be eating lots of ice cream on March 31st. Please click here to sign up to see how you can help! I will also send out an email with the link.

Weekly Newsletter – January 17

Good Afternoon! I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. We finally celebrated one last Christmas (just a tad late) and enjoyed our day off on Monday. Here are a few things to know this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are continuing to learn about verbs. We will have a small quiz on Thursday over our linking verbs (am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been). There will be a study sheet in take home folders tonight.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. The words focus on the prefixes un, re, mis, and dis.

Reading: This week we are focusing on characters, setting, and the plot of a story. We are also talking about prefixes and suffixes.

Bible: We are working through the life of Joseph. This week we are talking about Joseph and Potipher.

Math: We started division last week! We are going to be continuing through that this week. We will do some review on Friday too. We took a timed test today and we have another one on Friday.

Social Studies: We are learning about the life of Martin Luther King Jr. this week. We will be looking at his early life and studying his “I Have a Dream” speech.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 118:1 – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (A short, but good one)

Next Week’s Verse: No verse. Please be practicing for Speech Meet!

Grade Card Envelopes: Please send these back in this week!

Letters of Intent: These went home with report cards last week. Please turn those in as soon as possible as it helps us plan for next year.

Speech Meet: Selections will be due Friday February, 10. We will be partnering with the fourth grade and will be presenting all together. Please remember that memorization AND expression are both important.

Auction: Save the Date! Our school auction will be held at Church of the Savior this year on February 25th. Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend!

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Here are some things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We took a quiz today over nouns. We will be starting on verbs later this week.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through the life of Joseph. We are going to be talking what Joseph’s brothers did to him and how God used it.

Reading: This week we are learning about homophones, contractions, and how to write a fiction story.

Math: We are continuing to take timed tests (Tuesday and Friday). We are also starting division this week!

Social Studies: Last week we started a Social Studies community newspaper about different cultures and we will finish that up this week.

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday. Our words this week are all contractions.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Next Week’s Verse: Psalm 118:1 – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (A short, but good one)

Odds and Ends:

Parent Teacher Conferences: Forms are going home tomorrow! So sorry that I haven’t sent them home yet. The forms will say they are due back on Wednesday, but let’s plan on Friday.

Grade Cards: These will be going home on Friday.

Auction Basket: We have the chocolate lovers basket! Please be sending in stuff to fill our basket. There is a green bin outside my room for donations.

Speech Meet: Passages were assigned on Friday. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Don’t wait till the last minute to practice either!

No School: There is no school January 16th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Save the Date: The school auction is February 25th.

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. I know ours was very busy, but definitely lots of fun! Here are a few things to know for this week:

What We Are Learning:

English: We are working on plural possessive nouns this week. We will also be reviewing singular possessive nouns.

Bible: We are starting the life of Joseph this week! We will be learning about how God used him even in the hardest of circumstances.

Reading: This week we are doing some comprehension questions and we are working on following directions. We are also going to be talking about the main idea of a passage.

Math: We are going to spend the week doing some multiplication review. We did not take a timed test today, but we will have one on Friday.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday. Our words focus on consonant sounds.

Family Night: This week our school is having a family night at Chipotle! Join us for a night of good food and a portion of the proceeds will go to our school. Contact the office with questions. I believe flyers will be sent home this week.

Box Tops: Box tops are due TOMORROW. Please send in any box tops and coke rewards that you have. We didn’t turn any in last month so hopefully we can turn a lot in this month!

Grading Period: This Friday is the end of the grading period. Grade cards will be going home next Friday.

No School: There is no school January 16th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be January 26th. I will be sending papers home later this week.
