Weekly Newsletter – February 27

Good Morning! Just wanted to say a quick thank you to all of you who came and supported the Auction this weekend. We greatly appreciate your investment in Wooster Christian! Also, I know many of you were instrumental in making the Auction happen. Thank you for your hard work!

Here are a few things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing adjectives and article adjectives (a, an, the) this week. We will also be reviewing the 4 types of sentences.

Bible: We are almost done with the life of Joseph!

Reading: We are starting a new activity in reading this week! One of the big projects we do is Alphabet Books. We do most of the work in class but I will need some help in the beginning. Just wanted to plant the bug in your ear. I will send home a parent letter later this week.

Math: We are working on learning what mean and median are this week, along with arrangements and combinations. If all goes as planned we will be having a Math test later this week. I will let you know by Wednesday.

Social Studies: We are working our way through the states! We had fun learning about the states in the Northeast region last week, and talking about Washington DC, New York City, and Plymouth Rock. We will be having a quiz over the Northeast states on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Spelling: Our words this week deal with the r sound. Our test is on Friday!

Odds and Ends:

Re-Enrollment Packets: Packets went home last week!ย If you have any questions please contact the office.

Box Tops: Please send these in by Wednesday (March 1st) so we can turn them in that Friday. Thanks!

Class Pictures: We will be taking our class picture Wednesday March 15. Just a heads up!

No School: There is no school Friday March 17th due to a teacher in service day.

Third Quarter: The end of the 3rd quarter is Thursday March 16th.

Testing Week: Test will be March 27-31. Please make sure that as you are scheduling doctors appointments, etc that you try to avoid that week. It is very hard to make up tests so we want to avoid that as much as possible. Thanks!

Weekly Newsletter – February 21

Good Afternoon! I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend ๐Ÿ™‚ The weather was perfect for a few days off. Just to make you smile this afternoon… Here is a picture of the puppy that my husband and I got this weekend. We are very excited ๐Ÿ™‚ I told the kids this morning and there was quite a lot of squealing!

Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are continuing to learn how to identify and label the different parts of speech in a sentence. This week we will be adding adjectives to the list.

Bible: We are continuing through the life of Joseph!

Reading: This week we are learning how to summarize a story. We are also working through some words in our story that we may be unfamiliar with.

Math: We are continuing to learn about graphing! Today we did a fun activity learning how to graph and we surveyed our class to help us learn. We are also going to be talking about circle graphs, mean, median, and mode this week.

Social Studies: We are starting a new unit tomorrow over the states! We will be learning all of the fifty states and some fun facts about them as we go. Tomorrow a paper will go home with the different regions we will be studying and the states in that region.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday! Our words focus on irregular plural words.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse:ย Psalm 23:3 – he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Next Week’s Verse: Psalm 23:4 – Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Odds and Ends:

School Auction: The auction is this Saturday at 9:00! We would love for you to join us and support our school! Check out the event on Facebook by clicking here.

Re-Enrollment Packets: Packets went home today! Hopefully they were handed to you as students were picked up. If you did not get a packet please contact the office.

Weekly Newsletter – February 13

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Just a note really quick, I am so proud of each and every one of your kids! They all did very well on their Speech Meet selections on Friday! Just wanted to let you know ๐Ÿ™‚ Here are a few things to know for this week!

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are learning about adverbs! We will also continue to practice labeling sentences.

Bible: Still talking about Joseph!

Reading: This week is a review week. We will be doing some comprehension questions and reviewing some of the things we have learned the last few weeks.

Math: We are working on graphing this week! Today we will be talking about bar graphs. We will also be talking about circle graphs, line graphs, and taking surveys.

Science: We will be finishing up our solar system unit on Tuesday and we will be taking a quiz on Wednesday. Students will need to know the order of the planets for the quiz. A blue paper went home last week with the correct order!

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week, and it is on THURSDAY. The words are also review words so there is no spelling homework tonight.

Odds and Ends:

Valentine’s Day Party: Our class party is tomorrow at 2:30 and you are welcome to join us! We will be passing our valentines prior to the party so please be sure to send them with your student tomorrow morning. We will also be making bags in class tomorrow to hold our valentines. Remember, there are 14 students in our class. Let me know if you have questions!

Skating Party: There is an all school skating party at Acres of Fun on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00. It is $5 a person or $15 a family. Cash or check will be collected at the door.

Midterms: These will be going home Thursday. Please be patient with me as I catch up on grades. With so many kids being sick, I am still trying to get everyone caught up.

No School: We do not have school this Friday (the 17th) or Monday (the 20th).

Auction: Save the Date! Our school auction will be held at Church of the Savior this year on February 25th (that’s in about 2 weeks!) Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend! If you are willing to help with the auction please contact the office.

Weekly Newsletter – January 30

Good Morning! Looks like winter finally decided to show back up. We are officially at 99 days of school! Crazy to think about for sure. Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are starting a new unit where we will be labeling the different parts of speech in a sentence. We will be doing this and learning more parts of speech for almost of the rest of the year. I will be sending home some English homework just to keep you up to speed with where we are at.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through the life of Joseph! We got a little behind last week so we will be playing a little bit of catch up this week.

Reading: This week we are focusing on a few different things. First we are going to be working on the vocabulary that is in our story. Second we will be learning about news articles and how they are written. We might even get into the newspaper business ourselves ๐Ÿ™‚

Math: We are continuing to work through division. We are going to be wrapping it up this week! We will continue with timed test. They are on Tuesday and Friday this week.

Science: We started our Space unit last week! We learned about the history of space travel and this week we will be learning about the solar system!

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday. Our words this week are all dealing with different suffixes.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: No verse. Speech meet is due February 10th! Please be studying!

Next Week’s Verse: No verse. Speech meet is due in a few days! Please be practicing!

Odds and Ends:

100th Day of School: Tomorrow is the 100th day of school! We will be doing some fun in class activities to celebrate!

Letters of Intent: As we plan for next year it helps us to have some idea of what our enrollment might be. If you have not turned in your letter of intent please do so that way we can make plans for next year!

Speech Meet: Selections will be due Friday February, 10. We will be partnering with the fourth grade and will be presenting all together. Please remember that memorization AND expression are both important.

Auction: Save the Date! Our school auction will be held at Church of the Savior this year on February 25th. Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend! If you are willing to help with the auction please contact the office.

Box Tops: Please send these in by Wednesday so we can turn them in on Friday!

Valentine’s Party: Our party will be at 2:30 on Valentine’s Day (Feb 14th). We will be passing out Valentine’s just before the party, and we will make bags in class that week. I will send a class list home next week!

Weekly Newsletter – January 23

Good Morning! I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend! It was so nice to be able to open the windows and get some fresh air. Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing linking and helping verbs this week. We will be having a small quiz later this week.

Bible: We are continuing to learn about the life of Joseph. We wrapped up Joseph’s life in the house of Potipher and we are moving onto him interpreting dreams.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. The words have the /j/, /s/, and /k/ sounds

Reading: This week is Celebrate Reading Week! We are doing a Dr. Seuss theme this week. Students have set a goal of how much they want to read this week and will get prizes when they meet their goal. We will also be doing some fun things we Dr. Seuss books and we will have Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) throughout the week.

Math: We are learning about function machines, multiplying three numbers together, and more division this week. We have timed tests of Tuesday and Friday.

Social Studies and Science: We are wrapping up our short unit over the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in social studies. We are moving onto our science unit over the solar system!

This Week’s Verse: No verse. Please be practicing speech meet selections!

Next Week’s Verse: Same ๐Ÿ™‚

Odds and Ends:

Spirit Week: It is Spirit Week! Today was Athlete/Mathlete day and students came dress super well! Tomorrow Camo Day so students can wear camo and bright orange. Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday, Thursday is WCS Spirit Day, and Friday is Class Color Day. Our class color is white.

Grade Card Envelopes: Please get these turned in if you already haven’t!

Good Afternoon! I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. We finally celebrated one last Christmas (just a tad late) and enjoyed our day off on Monday. Here are a few things to know this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are continuing to learn about verbs. We will have a small quiz on Thursday over our linking verbs (am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been). There will be a study sheet in take home folders tonight.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. The words focus on the prefixes un, re, mis, and dis.

Reading: This week we are focusing on characters, setting, and the plot of a story. We are also talking about prefixes and suffixes.

Bible: We are working through the life of Joseph. This week we are talking about Joseph and Potipher.

Math: We started division last week! We are going to be continuing through that this week. We will do some review on Friday too. We took a timed test today and we have another one on Friday.

Social Studies: We are learning about the life of Martin Luther King Jr. this week. We will be looking at his early life and studying his “I Have a Dream” speech.

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 118:1 โ€“ Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (A short, but good one)
