Weekly Newsletter – March 27

Good Morning! It looks like spring just might be here to stay. I am very ready for some warmer weather! Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

*Because it is testing week, we are keeping things pretty low key. We will keep working on math and our Alphabet books.

*We do have a states test tomorrow and we will still have timed tests this week.

 

Spelling Words and Bible Verse:

No Spelling Test this week

This Week’s Verse: I had originally said we would do a Bible verse this week, but we will skip this week and do one next week.

Next Week’s Verse: 1 Timothy 4:12 – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

 

Odds and Ends:

Testing Week: Just a reminder to make sure your student gets lots of rest this week!

Friday: This Friday is our PJ/Movie/Sundae Party! Students can come dressed in (school appropriate) pajamas. They can also bring a blanket or stuffed animal for the movie. Then after the movie we will celebrate with our Multiplication Sundae Party! I am still in need of a few items for the party. You can sign up here!

Report Card Envelopes: Please get these sent back in as soon as possible.

Homework: This week there is no XtraMath or reading that needs to be done.

Easter Party: Our class Easter Party will be next Friday at 2:30. Feel free to join us!

Helicopter Egg Drop: Saturday April 8th Grace Church is hosting the Helicopter Egg Drop and we would love for you to join us! The eggs will drop at 11:00. Click here for more details. Hope to see you there!

Spring Break: Spring Break is April 10th-14th. Happy Easter!

Weekly Newsletter – September 19

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Well, we are back to having 5 day weeks…what are we going to do?!? 🙂 Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are working on the four types of sentences this week (Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative, Exclamatory). We do have a homework paper over this tonight so please check your child’s folder.

Math: We are wrapping up chapter 1 this week. We will be reviewing on Wednesday in class and taking a test on Thursday.

Reading: This week we are learning about comparing and contrasting in a story, and we are learning how to look for details in a story and how they help us learn.

Science: We are reviewing our science unit this week and we will be taking a quiz on Thursday. We will be moving on to Social Studies next week.

Bible: We are adding 5 more books this week (Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalm, Proverbs). We are continuing on with learning about Abraham!

Spelling: This week we are working on vowel sounds in our spelling words. Please make sure you are practicing with your student at home and that they are bringing back their homework on Tuesdays.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Matthews 5:14-15 – You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Next Week’s Verse: Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against such thing there is no law.

Odds and Ends:

Eagle Cards: Wednesday is the final turn in date for Eagle Cards! Please help your student sell those cards, and don’t forget to turn everything in on Wednesday.

Midterms: These are going home on Friday. If your student is missing work I might be sending it home so it gets finished. Please be checking folders.

Handbooks: The parent/student handbook is being sent home today. Please sign the front page and return it to school by September 30th.

Fall Field Trip: We are going to the Columbus Zoo! I am so sorry that it has taken so long to get this scheduled. Schedules have been crazy. We are planning on going on October 5th, and parents are welcome. Forms will be going home later this week.

Picture Day: Third grade picture day is September 28th. Forms will be coming home soon.

Weekly Newsletter – September 6

Good Morning! I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. It sounds like everyone had lots of fun this weekend. Here are a few things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are continuing to work on the subject and the predicate in a sentence.

Math: We are spending this week learning about the ten thousands and the hundred thousands place value. We will also start rounding this week!

Bible: We are adding 5 more books to our Books of the Bible quiz this week. On Friday students will need to know the first 10 books (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel) We will also be starting the story of Abraham this week.

Reading: This week we will be looking at the order of a story and how that helps us understand what is happening in the story. We will also continue to work on Alphabetical Order and comprehension questions.

Spelling: We took our spelling pre-test today, so the corrections are due tomorrow. Our test is on Friday and we are working on words that are plural.

Science: This we we are continuing to learn about ecology. We are working on animal project this week as well!

 

Bible Verse:

This Week’s Verse: Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go

Next Week’s Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 – Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Do everything in love.

Odds and Ends:

Eagle Cards: The next turn in date is TOMORROW! Please keep selling those Eagle Cards! Prize tables will be on Friday.

#forwaynecounty: We are collecting cans to help fight food insecurity in our county! Our goal is to fill 10 reusable shopping bags (that are in my room) by next Thursday. Our class gets lerch’s donuts if they meet the goal! Encourage your students to may spend some of their money to help kids in Wayne County. Let me know if you have any questions, or check out the Grace Church facebook page for more information!

Remind 101:If you have not signed up for Remind yet please do so! Just go to this website and click on this link  (https://www.remind.com/join/4437k)  and enter your phone number. This makes it easy for me to quickly communicate any reminders that are important or anything I might have forgotten to mention in class that day. Most everyone has signed up!

Kids Time and Transportation Changes: Please make sure to tell your kids what they are doing after school each day. This helps our end of the day routine immensely. If there are any changes during the day, feel free to email me or contact the office.

Take Home Folder: Each night your child will be bringing home their Take Home folder. Please check this nightly for any homework and make sure it gets sent back the next day.

Homework Logs: This week we have added a homework log to our take home folders. One side will have our nightly homework (tests, quizzes, worksheets, etc) Please initial this side each night. The other side will have a space for math and reading. Students are required to do 10 minutes of XtraMath 5 times a week and 15 minutes of reading (any book) 5 times a week. I do not average times together so students must do each subject 5 different days.

Box Tops: Start sending in those Box Tops! Our first turn in date is in October.

No School: We do not have school next Monday due to it being Fair Day! We will also have a delayed start on Tuesday. School does not start until 11:00.

Weekly Newsletter – August 29

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I told the kids on Friday that they officially survived the first week of Third Grade! There are a few things to know for this week so please read everything below carefully:

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we learning the difference between fragments and sentences. We will also be learning what the subject of a sentence is and what the predicate of a sentence is.

Math: We are beginning our first unit in math this week. We are learning about place value and comparing numbers.

Bible: This year we will be learning the books of the Bible. We are starting with the first 5 books and students will need to know the order this Friday (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy). We are also going to start learning the story of Abraham!

Reading: This week we are studying what the character, setting, and plot of a story are. We will also be doing some reading comprehension and learning how to put words in alphabetical order.

Spelling: We will have our first spelling test this week. The words are listed below and our test will be on Friday. Today we are taking a practice test. Students will correct the test in class and then tonight for homework they will need write the words they got wrong three times each. They will then turn both the practice test and the re-written words in tomorrow. We will do this each week and it is for a grade. If students get everything correct on the pretest they do not have to take the test on Fridays.

Science: We are starting our unit over the environment this week. Students will be learning what their environment is and how they can help the environment.

Remind 101:If you have not signed up for Remind yet please do so! Just go to this website and click on this link  (https://www.remind.com/join/4437k)  and enter your phone number. This makes it easy for me to quickly communicate any reminders that are important or anything I might have forgotten to mention in class that day.

Eagle Cards: Eagle Card packets went home on Thursday. If you have any questions about Eagle Cards feel free to contact the office. Please please please have your kids sell their Eagle Cards. This is a great fundraiser for our school and it doesn’t hurt that the kids can win a few prizes. The first turn in day is Wednesday and the first prize table is Friday!

No School: We will not have school next Monday (Labor Day) or the following Monday (Fair Day).

#forwaynecounty: In Wayne County, there are so many families that are food insecure. They have no idea where there next meal is coming from. We want to change that. Grace Church, along with the entire county, is collected canned goods to feed Wayne County. We are filling resuable grocery bags and bringing canned food to the Grace Church fair booth. We are hoping to make a difference in Wayne County and our third grade class can help! Starting Wednesday there will be some of the grocery bags in my classroom. Our goal will be to fill 10 (or more) bags by fair week! There will be a prize for our class at the end if we meet our goal 🙂 Help us make a different in Wayne County! Tardies: Please make sure your child is on time for school each more. I am being gracious with tardies this week, but next week students must be at their desk when the 9:00 bell rings.

Scholastic Book Club: Make sure to check out the September flyer on the helpful websites page and this blog post on how to sign up! This is a great way to order books for your students and keep them reading!

Weekly Newsletter – April 18

Good Morning! I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend. It was so nice to be outside! The nice weather will definitely be good as we start testing week. Here are a few things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

This week is testing week so we are keeping things pretty low key. We will continue with our math chapter about measurement and we will keep working on our alphabet books. Anything else we do will be review and hopefully a little bit of a brain break in between tests.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Bible Verse: Matthew 22:37-38 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.

Next Week’s Bible Verse: Matthew 28:19 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Spelling Words: There is no spelling test this week.

 

Odds and Ends:

Testing Week: We are kicking off testing this morning! Please make sure students are getting plenty of rest and eating well this week. We will do normal snacks this week, but on Tuesday students are free to bring an extra snack to eat in the morning.

Homework: There is no math and reading this week! I want to make sure everyone gets to enjoy the weather and gets a brain break each night. The only homework this week is our Bible verse.

Spring Program: The spring concert is next Thursday! More details to come but as usual please make sure boys are wearing nice pants and collared shirts and girls are wearing skirts, dresses, or nice pants. Everyone is expected to be there!

Field Trip: Our class field trip is May 23rd! More details coming this week.

Book Fair: The school book fair is next week! We will be doing a preview day on Monday as a class. The book fair will be open during the school days and after the spring program on Thursday.

Mid-terms: Midterms are going home on Friday. Grades will be updated during the week. Please keep that in mind as you check progressbook.

Weekly Newsletter – February 29

Good Morning and Happy Leap Day! Just what we need an extra day of winter. Wouldn’t it be nice if we got the extra day during the summer? 🙂 Here is what you need to know this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: Today we took a test over sentence labeling. We are going to start learning about prepositions later this week.

Math: We are practicing word problems today and tomorrow. We will be taking a test on Wednesday over division, fact families, and function machines. A review sheet will go home tomorrow night.

Reading: This week we are going to be writing biographies about our classmates! We are also going to do some vocabulary practice.

Social Studies: We are starting a new unit this week and we will be learning about different map symbols, state abbreviations, and features in our state.

Bible: We just finished learning about Joseph and how he interpreted the dreams of the cupbearer and the baker. This week we will look at how Joseph was released from prison and became the head of Pharaoh’s household. We do have a Bible Verse due this week.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday with test correction homework tonight. Our words are focused on the “r” sound this week.

Writing: We are going to be starting Alphabet Books this week! Please check your child’s take home folder for information and what I need your help with.

School Auction: Thank you to everyone who came and supported Wooster Christian at the auction this weekend! It was fun to see so many of you there!

Spirit Week: Today was WCS Spirit Day! Here is the list for the rest of the week. Tuesday: Twin Day, Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday, Thursday: Favorite Sports Team; Friday: Hat Day.

Box Tops: These are due on Wednesday! We are a little behind our class goal, so please send them in!

No School: There is no school March 11th due to a Teacher In Service Day.

End of the Grading Period: The last day of the 3rd grading period is March 10th. We are almost 3/4 of the way through the year!

Weekly Newsletter – February 22

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather that decided to visit us. I have to be honest and say I was hoping it would stay, but I guess we will have to wait. Here are some things to know this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are reviewing subjects and predicates. We will also be working on how to fix incorrect sentences.

Math: We are continuing to work through division this week. We will also be working on fact families a little more this week. We have a timed test tomorrow and Friday. We already have a two students who are done and a few more close behind! Once students finish multiplication they will be going straight into division. Once everyone has finished multiplication  we will have our ice cream party! I am hoping maybe we can do it before Spring Break 🙂

Reading: This week were are working on summarizing a story.

Science: We are taking our science quiz today over the solar system. We will be moving on to Social Studies next.

Bible: We are continuing to learn about the life of Joseph. We do have a Bible Verse this week!

Spelling: We do have a test this week, and the words are listed below. Remember, spelling homework is due tomorrow!

Tuesday: Twin (or Triplet) Day!

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday

Thursday: Sport Day – wear your favorite team apparel!

Friday: Hat Day – wear your favorite hat or a funny hat!

Yearbook Forms: These were due on Friday. However, you can still order online if you have not done so.

Re-Enrollment: Packets for re-enrollment went home last week. Please remember to get these in soon! If you have any questions about enrollment make sure to contact the office.
