Weekly Newsletter – May 15

Good Morning! We have 11 and a half days of school left! Crazy to think about. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful weather. Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are wrapping up pronouns and fragments this week. We will review on Thursday and we will have a quiz on Monday.

Reading: This week we are working on summaries and conclusions, doing some vocabulary, and working on our alphabet books! We are coming to the end of these and they are looking so good!

Math: We are wrapping up multiplication with two and three digits this week. We have added some regrouping to what we are doing as well. We will have a test either Thursday or Friday.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about the continents and oceans. Students will need to memorize these and we will be having a quiz next Friday. We will be doing plenty of review in class as well!

Bible: We are going to do a quick 2 week unit over the life of Daniel. We will be focusing on Daniel in captivity and in the lion’s den.

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday. Our words all have the ei or eigh pattern.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Next Week’s Verse: Psalm 121: 1-2 – I lift my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. (LAST BIBLE VERSE!)

Odds and Ends:

Class Chapel: Thank you for coming to watch our class chapel! All your kids did such a great job and I am so proud of them!

Library Books: All library books are due back TOMORROW! Please make sure to send those in. If your student is missing a library book their report card will be held until the book is returned or paid for. Thanks!

End of the Year Picnic: The school end of the year picnic is Friday May 19th. Please contact the office to RSVP or for details.

Field Trip: Our spring field trip will be May 24th and we are going to the Great Lakes Science Center! I will send home a few more details next Monday.

No School: No School May 29th for Memorial Day.

Field Day: A paper went home last week asking for Field Day volunteers. If you are willing to help please send that paper back in as soon as possible or contact the office.

Report Cards: We will be sending these home the last day of school. Another reminder:  if your student is missing a library book their report card will be held until that is paid for or returned 🙂

Awards and the Last Day of School: Awards Chapel will be at 9:15 on May 30th. The last day of school is May 31st. We dismiss early that day at 12:00.

Good Morning! I hope you all had a good and restful weekend. Here are a few things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are wrapping up pronouns and reviewing fragments.

Bible: We are focusing on our chapel skits this week! We are so excited for chapel on Friday!

Math: We are continuing to work on 2 digit multiplication and regrouping this week.

Science: We are taking our science quiz today and that will wrap up science for the school year.

Social Studies: Our last social studies unit will deal with the continents and oceans. We will be starting that this week.

Reading: We are continuing to work on our alphabet books! If your student is behind they may be asked to bring it home this weekend. If that is the case, please make sure that your student gets as caught up as possible.

Class Chapel: Our third grade class chapel is on Friday. Parents are welcome to come watch! We will be doing two different skits. Parts were assigned last week. I will send home an email either later today or tomorrow with information about costumes and props (promise it will be simple!)

End of the Year Picnic: The school end of the year picnic is Friday May 19th. More details to come!

Field Trip: Our spring field trip will be May 24th and we are going to the Great Lakes Science Center!

Good Morning! Can you believe it’s May 1st? Can you believe we have 1 month of school left?? We have a lot going on this last month so here are a few things to know.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are continuing to learn about pronouns this week. We will also be reviewing conjunctions!

Reading: This week in reading groups we are reviewing homonyms, answering comprehension questions, and writing narrative stories. It is a busy week!

Bible: We are starting the life of Daniel this week! This will take us through the end of the year.

Math: We are starting two and three digit multiplication this week. Students are excited…I think 🙂

Science: We are continuing to study the brain this week! While some have been a little grossed out, most students have loved learning about this! 🙂

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday!

Family Night: Our last family night of the year is next Tuesday at Five Guys in Wooster. Come out a support our school! The flyer will be posted and sent home later this week.

Weekly Newsletter – April 24

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. There are quite a few things going on this week, so please make sure you read carefully.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are learning about subject and possessive pronouns. We will be labeling them in sentences and memorizing the 14 pronouns.

Bible: We are continuing to learn about Joseph. Either later this week or next week we will move onto the life of Daniel!

Reading: This week we are talking about synonyms and comparing and contrasting. We will also continue to work on our Alphabet Books!

Math: We are wrapping up chapter 8 this week. We are finishing our section about time either today or tomorrow. We will have a review day on Wednesday or Thursday and a quiz on Thursday or Friday.

Science: This week we are starting our unit over the nervous system. We will be learning about the brain, the spinal cord, and our nerves.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday AND we do have spelling homework tonight.

Midterms: These will be going home on Wednesday. Please be patient as I update grades this week.

Book Fair: The Book Fair is happening all week including after the Spring Program on Thursday night. Our class is going to preview books today!

Sock Drive: Middle School Student Council is sponsoring a sock drive this week. Each class is being asked to bring socks in this week and the socks will be donated to People to People Ministries. The class with the most socks will win an ice cream party! There will be a bag in my classroom that students can put socks in. Please make sure they are new socks 🙂

Spring Program: Our program is this Thursday! Students need to be in the classroom at 6:45 and the program starts at 7:00. Girls need to wear a skirt, dress, or dress pants. Boys need to wear dress pants and a collared shirt. No jeans and no pants with holes in them. Each family needs to bring 1 dozen cookies on the day of the program as well.

Mile Run: The third and fourth graders have been training for the mile run! They will do this May 5th at 10:00. If you would like to help, please contact the office. All are free to come watch!

Box Tops: The last Box Top turn in of the year will be next Friday (Maay 5th). Please send in your box tops!

Class Chapel: Our third grade class chapel is May 12th. Parents are welcome to come watch! Details will be coming home soon.

Save the Date: Our spring field trip will be May 24th! More details to come.

Weekly Newsletter – April 17

Good Morning! I hope you all had a relaxing and wonderful Spring Break. The weather was wonderful last week. Well, the countdown is on! Six more weeks left in this school year. It has gone by quickly! Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are talking about Subject/Verb Agreement this week. We want to make sure that students are making sure who they are talking about agrees with what they are doing. We are also reviewing prepositions this week!

Reading: This week we are going to start by doing a little bit of journaling and doing some vocabulary review. We are also doing alphabet books!

Math: We are reviewing measuring today and learning about temperature tomorrow. We will be taking a quiz on Wednesday, and then we are starting time later this week.

Bible: We are jumping back into the story of Joseph this week!

Science: Before spring break we started our unit over the body. We will do some review this week and talk about muscles. We will probably be having a quiz on Thursday.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. It is a review week so no test corrections tonight.

This Week’s Verse: Matthew 22:37-38 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.

Spring Program: The elementary spring program is next Thursday the 27th. Students will need to be in the classroom at 6:45. Girls need to wear skirts, dresses, or nice pants. Boys need to be in a collard shirt and nice pants. No jeans or sweatpants please.

Mile Run: The third and fourth graders have been training for the mile run! They will do this May 5th at 10:00. If you would like to help, please contact the office. All are free to come watch!

Good Morning! Can you believe it’s May?? It seems like this year has flown by and I cannot believe we are nearing the end. Here are something to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing editing a sentence this week and making fragments into sentences.

Math: We are continuing to work our way through our measurement chapter. This week we are focusing on temperature and time. We have timed tests on Tuesday and Friday.

Reading: This week we are talking about the sequence of a story and looking specifically at the vocabulary in our weekly story.

Bible: We will be starting the story of Daniel this week! This will help us finish out the year.

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday. We are focusing on the au, augh, ou, and ough sounds

Science: We are wrapping up our unit over the nervous system this week. We will be having a quiz on Wednesday and we will be starting our healthy unit on Thursday.

Class Chapel: This Friday is the 3rd grade class chapel! You are welcome to join us at 9:15 on Friday. We will be telling the story of Joseph. You students might be saying things about costumes. So here are some details: Students that are brothers can wear bathrobes or long t-shirts tied at the waist. Students that are camels can wear brown or tan shirts and jeans or brown pants. The narrators can wear everyday clothes. Anything more specific will be sent home by email.

Box Tops: This week is the last week for box tops! Please send them in by Wednesday so there is time to get them cut before Friday.

End of the Year Picnic: The all school end of the year picnic is Friday, May 13th at Acres of Fun! Contact the office with any questions.

Field Trip: Our field trip is May 23rd! Once we get closer I will send home a few reminders for the day.

Elementary Award Chapel: This will be on Tuesday May 24th. More details to come.

Last Day of School: Wow! The last day is Wednesday May 25th! We will be having field day in the morning and school ends at 12:30 that day. There is no Kids Time.

Good Morning! We are down to the last 4 (and a half) weeks of school! Crazy to think about. There is a lot going on this week so please read carefully. Here are the things you need to know:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing pronouns and conjunctions this week. We will be learning how to label them in a sentence.

Math: We are continuing to work our way through our measurement unit. This week we are focusing on centimeters, meters, kilometers, milliliters, liters, grams, and kilograms. We will have timed tests on Tuesday and Friday.

Reading: This week we are learning about homophones! We are also focusing on the main idea of a story.

Bible: We will be wrapping up Joseph this week (if everything goes as planned). We do have a Bible verse due on Wednesday.

Spelling: Our words this week are all homophones. It is important that students understand the different meanings of the words. Our test will be on Friday.

Science: This week we are starting our unit over the nervous system. It should be an exciting time!

Girls need to wear a dress, skirt, or dress pants. Students are supposed to be bringing straw hats for one of their songs. Please bring those in by Wednesday!

Book Fair: We are going to our preview day of the book fair today. It will be open all week including concert night. The book fair helps support our school library so come check it out!

Field Trip: We are going to the Great Lakes Science Center! Money is due this Friday.

Box Tops: We are nearing the end of the year with Box Tops! The last turn in date is May 6th. Please get as many box tops as possible turned in by then!

Class Chapel: Our class chapel is Friday May 6th. Parents are welcome to come watch!

Weekly Newsletter – April 11

Good Morning! I hope you all had a good, although wintery, weekend 🙂 Here are some things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We took a quiz over prepositions today, and we will be starting to go over pronouns later this week.

Math: This week we are starting a new unit over measurement. We are working on everything from feet and inches to meters and centimeters. We will also be doing some stuff with time and temperature.

Reading: We are reviewing synonyms this week and comparing and contrasting. We are also still working hard on our alphabet books!

Bible: This week we are talking about how Joseph was able to forgive his brothers and how we should forgive others. We do have a Bible verse due this week as well.

Spelling: We do have a test this week. The words focus on the patter consonant vowel/vowel consonant.

Science: We are continuing to learn about the skeletal system this week. We will probably have a quiz later this week once we finish this chapter.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: 1 Timothy 4:12 – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Testing Week: Next week is elementary testing week. Please make sure that your child is well rested and has eaten a good breakfast each day. Please make sure to send a good snack as well as they are usually hungry by the time snack rolls around, especially during testing week. Also, please do your best to avoid doctors appointments, etc during the week as well.

Midterms: These will be going home next Friday.

Book Fair: The school book fair is April 25-29. More details to come!

Class Chapel: Our chapel is May 6th! Parents are free to come watch 🙂

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Hopefully that was the last snowstorm of the season 🙂 Here are a few things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are working on subject/verb agreement and we will be reviewing from the past few weeks.

Math: We are continuing to work our way through graphing. We did a class survey activity on Friday and this week we are working on arrangements and probability. We will have timed tests on Tuesday and Friday. Our Sundae Party is on April 15th for those who are finished with multiplication! An email went out last week with information and I will send an updated list either later today or tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Reading: This week is a review week of some past information. We will also be working hard on our Alphabet books this week!

Bible: We are almost done with the life of Joseph. This week we are learning about how Joseph was reunited with his family!

Spelling: We do have a test this week. The words are review from the past few weeks.

Science: We are starting a unit over the skeletal system this week! We will spend the next few weeks learning about the human body and doing some health and nutrition related activities.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Next Week’s Verse: 1 Timothy 4:12 – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Class Chapel: DATE CHANGE. Due to testing week our class chapel as been moved to May 6th! Make sure to update your calendars 🙂

Testing Weeks: April 18th-22nd is elementary testing week. Please make sure that your child is here that week and avoid scheduling doctors appointments, etc if at all possible. It is important that your child gets plenty of rest that week and has a good breakfast!

Skating Party: The all school skating party is this Thursday from 4:00-6:00 at Acres of Fun. Contact the office with any questions!

Weekly Newsletter – March 28

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break and a great Easter. The weather yesterday was absolutely beautiful…hopefully it comes back 🙂 Here are some things to know for the week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing prepositions today and we are adding a noun job chart as well. We will focus on this most of the week.

Math: We are continuing to work on different types of graphing. We will look at line plots and learn what mean and median mean.

*Sundae Math: We will be having our Sundae Party on Friday April 15th! Those students who have finished their multiplication facts will get to participate in the Sundae Party. I will be sending home a letter later this week with more information 🙂

Reading: This week we are going to be learning about the causes and effects in a story. We are also going to be practicing how to write a good summary.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through the life of Joseph. We will talk about how his brothers came to visit him in Egypt.

Spelling: This week we are working on syllables and the spelling pattern vowel-consonant-consonant-consonant-vowel.

Writing: We are continuing to plug away at our alphabet books! Those who need a little more time will be bringing their papers home tonight to help them get ahead.

Elementary Testing: Our testing this year will be April 18-22. Please make sure that doctors appointments, etc are not made during this week. It is important that all students are present!

Early Enrollment Deadline: The deadline for early enrollment is this Friday. Contact the office if you have any questions.
