Weekly Newsletter – December 12

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful, snowy weekend. We spent the weekend in Columbus and definitely had an interesting drive home last night, but it was so nice! The countdown is on to Christmas break…Here are some things to know:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are focusing on possessive nouns. We are looking at singular possessive nouns this week.

Bible: We are continuing to do the Jesse tree and we are making Christmas story booklets. Students have been having a lot of fun with both of these!

Reading: This week we are learning how to predict what might happen in a story, and the purpose of a story. We are also learning about antonyms this week.

Math: We continue to plug away at multiplication! This week we are learning our eights, nines, and tens. We will have a timed test tomorrow, Friday, and next Tuesday.

Science: Last week we did some experiments to learn about the scientific method and we will be finishing that up this week.

Writing: We are continuing to work on our Best Christmas Present Ever Essays. We are writing our final copies this week.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday (we will not have one next week). Our words contain spl, thr, squ, str, and scr sounds.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Luke 2:16-17 – So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child…

Next Week’s Verse: Luke 2:18-19 – …and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Odds and Ends:

Christmas Trees: Wooster Christian is selling Christmas Trees at the Buehler’s Milltown location. This is a great way to support our school! Contact the office if you are willing to help sell trees.

Auction Baskets: Information about our class auction basket went home a few weeks ago. We have the chocolate lovers basket! Supplies are due towards the end of January, but we have a bin outside the classroom if you want to send in donations now.

Christmas Program: The elementary school music program is on Thursday. Students will need to be in the classroom at 6:45. Girls need to wear a nice dress, skirt, or dress pants. Boys need to wear nice pants and nice shirt. Please no jeans or sweatpants. Remember to bring cookies for the reception afterwards!

All School Chapel: This week chapel is for the whole school. You are welcome to join us!

Christmas Break: Our break is December 22-January 2.

Christmas Party: Our class party will be December 21 at 2:30. You are welcome to join!

Box Tops: As we head into Christmas, please remember to collect box tops off of all that yummy food you are eating! Also, we are collecting Coke Rewards now. Send in bottle caps from any Coke product. If you drink the cans, look inside the box for a Coke Rewards code!

Christmas Spirit Day: Next Wednesday for our party we are doing a Christmas Spirit Day. Students should wear red and green, ugly Christmas sweaters, pretty Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, etc. Have fun with it 🙂 I will be wearing my ugly Christmas sweater!

Weekly Newsletter – December 5

Good Morning! We only have 20 more days till Christmas! That was the reminder I got from students this morning, and I still haven’t started my Christmas shopping. Things are going to be crazy 🙂 Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are continuing to work on plural nouns. We are focusing on irregular plural nouns. We will be having a noun quiz on Thursday.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through the Jesse Tree. We are having so much fun with this!

Reading: This week we are learning about onomatopoeia! We are going to be drawing comic strips to help us understand this reading concept. We are also learning about compound words.

Math: We are learning sevens and eights this week. Students are doing so well with their multiplication tests! I am so proud of them. Keep studying hard! We will have a timed test tomorrow and Friday.

Science: This week we are doing a short unit over the scientific method. We are going to be doing some Christmas themed experiments and activities to learn about this.

Writing: We are continuing to work on paragraphs and building our writing skills. This week we are going to be writing about the best present we have ever received and why it was so great!

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. The words this week are all compound words.

Weekly Newsletter – December 14

Good Morning! I hope you all are having a great Monday. We are winding down to Christmas and we have a very busy week ahead of us. Here are some things for you to know:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are finishing up our “Best Present Ever” paragraphs, and we will be doing some Christmas activities throughout the week.

Math: We have a timed test on Tuesday and on Friday. Please make sure that your student is ready for there test! Also, please make sure that your student continues to practice of Christmas break.

Reading: This week we are reading The Legend of the Candy Cane and The Polar Express. We will be doing some fun activities to go with each of these Christmas stories.

Science: We will be taking a science test/quiz on Wednesday. We will be reviewing in class on Tuesday and I will send home a review sheet that night as well.

Bible: This week we are wrapping up our Jesse Tree unit. We do have a Bible verse this week!

Spelling: We will be having a spelling test this week! The words are listed below, and it is a review week.

Odds and Ends:

Christmas Program: Our program is on Thursday at 7:00. Please make sure that your student is wearing nice pants and a collared shirt(boys) or a skirt or dress(girls).

Christmas Party: Our class Christmas party will be Friday at 2:30. All parents are welcome to join!

Christmas Shoppe: Our class will be having our preview day of the Christmas Shoppe on Tuesday and our shopping day will be on Wednesday. Students are not required to buy anything, but this is a fun way for them to shop for their family members!

Speech Meet: Information about Speech Meet went home on Friday. Please make sure to turn that information in by Thursday so that students can begin practicing over Christmas Break.

Timed Tests: The schedule for the rest of our tests will go home later this week as well!

Math and Reading: As a “Merry Christmas” to parents and students there is no Math and Reading this week or over Christmas break 🙂

Weekly Newsletter – December 7

Good Morning! I told the kids that we only have 10 more days of school before break and they were just a little excited 🙂 Christmas will do that to you. I hope you all had a great weekend! I was able to get most of my Christmas shopping and I got to hang out with my mom. Definitely a fun time! Here is what is going on this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are going to be learning about singular possessive nouns this week. This is a little bit of review from last year, but still very important!

Math: We are taking another timed test on Tuesday (plus one on Friday). Please be helping your child study these nightly. They have 2 and a half minutes to do 50 problems, so practice doing the facts in those 2 and a half minutes. It is so important that students are memorizing these. The best way to do this is to practice every single night.

Reading: This week we are learning about the purpose of a story and also about antonyms!

Science: We are continuing to learn about force and motion this week, and we will be wrapping this unit up before break.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week! We are focusing on a couple of different sounds this week. The words are listed below.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through our Jesse Tree devotions and our What’s in the Bible movie. Students are loving the Jesse Tree!

Speech Meet: Details about Speech Meet will be coming home later this week. I want students to have break (plus January) to practice!

Christmas Shoppe: Our class will be going to the Christmas Shoppe next week. I will send out an email later this week with exact dates and times.

All School Chapel: We will be together as a school for chapel on December 18th. It will be at its normal time.

Next Week: I will be out of town next Saturday-Monday. I will make sure the newsletter gets posted, you just may not receive an email from me telling you it is posted but I promise it will be there!

No School: Christmas Break is from December 19th thru January 3rd. School starts back up on the 4th!

Weekly Newsletter – November 30

Good morning! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break, and enjoyed time with family. Can you believe that we only have 15 school days till Christmas break? Probably not what you wanted to think about 🙂 Here is what is going on this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are learning about irregular nouns and compound words. We are doing activities during reading groups for both of this things!

Math: We are continuing to work our way through multiplication! Today we are reviewing 2s and we will be taking our test tomorrow. We are also going to be learning 3s and 4s with a 3s test on Friday!

Reading: This week we are learning about onomatopoeia! We are going to be making our own comics using different sound words.

Science: We are starting a new science unit this week and we are going to be learning about motion!

Spelling: We do have a test this week. The words are listed below. We are working on compound words in Spelling as well.

Bible: This week we are watching our What’s in the Bible movie and we are starting our Christmas unit. We are going to be starting the Jesse Tree. We are going to be learning about the line of Jesus starting with Adam and decorating a Christmas tree as we go!
