Weekly Newsletter – May 1

Good Morning! Can you believe it’s May 1st? Can you believe we have 1 month of school left?? We have a lot going on this last month so here are a few things to know.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are continuing to learn about pronouns this week. We will also be reviewing conjunctions!

Reading: This week in reading groups we are reviewing homonyms, answering comprehension questions, and writing narrative stories. It is a busy week!

Bible: We are starting the life of Daniel this week! This will take us through the end of the year.

Math: We are starting two and three digit multiplication this week. Students are excited…I think 🙂

Science: We are continuing to study the brain this week! While some have been a little grossed out, most students have loved learning about this! 🙂

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday!

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse:  Psalm 9:1 – I will give thanks to your, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

Next Week’s Verse: Romans 3:23-24 – …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Odds and Ends:

Mile Run: The third and fourth graders have been training for the mile run! They will do this on Friday at 10:00. If you would like to help, please contact the office. All are free to come watch!

Box Tops: The last Box Top turn in of the year will be this Friday. Please send in your box tops by Wednesday so they can be cut and sorted!

Family Night: Our last family night of the year is next Tuesday at Five Guys in Wooster. Come out a support our school! The flyer will be posted and sent home later this week.

Class Chapel: Our third grade class chapel is May 12th. Parents are welcome to come watch! We will be doing two different skits. Parts are being assigned this week.

End of the Year Picnic: The school end of the year picnic is Friday May 19th. More details to come!

Field Trip: Our spring field trip will be May 24th and we are going to the Great Lakes Science Center! Information is in today’s folders. Please send the money in by Friday.

No School: No School May 29th for Memorial Day

Awards and the Last Day of School: Awards Chapel will be at 9:15 on May 30th. The last day of school is May 31st. We dismiss early that day at 12:00.

Weekly Newsletter – April 24

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. There are quite a few things going on this week, so please make sure you read carefully.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are learning about subject and possessive pronouns. We will be labeling them in sentences and memorizing the 14 pronouns.

Bible: We are continuing to learn about Joseph. Either later this week or next week we will move onto the life of Daniel!

Reading: This week we are talking about synonyms and comparing and contrasting. We will also continue to work on our Alphabet Books!

Math: We are wrapping up chapter 8 this week. We are finishing our section about time either today or tomorrow. We will have a review day on Wednesday or Thursday and a quiz on Thursday or Friday.

Science: This week we are starting our unit over the nervous system. We will be learning about the brain, the spinal cord, and our nerves.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday AND we do have spelling homework tonight.

This Week’s Verse: Matthew 28:19 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Odds and Ends:

Midterms: These will be going home on Wednesday. Please be patient as I update grades this week.

Book Fair: The Book Fair is happening all week including after the Spring Program on Thursday night. Our class is going to preview books today!

Sock Drive: Middle School Student Council is sponsoring a sock drive this week. Each class is being asked to bring socks in this week and the socks will be donated to People to People Ministries. The class with the most socks will win an ice cream party! There will be a bag in my classroom that students can put socks in. Please make sure they are new socks 🙂

Spring Program: Our program is this Thursday! Students need to be in the classroom at 6:45 and the program starts at 7:00. Girls need to wear a skirt, dress, or dress pants. Boys need to wear dress pants and a collared shirt. No jeans and no pants with holes in them. Each family needs to bring 1 dozen cookies on the day of the program as well.

Mile Run: The third and fourth graders have been training for the mile run! They will do this May 5th at 10:00. If you would like to help, please contact the office. All are free to come watch!

Box Tops: The last Box Top turn in of the year will be next Friday (Maay 5th). Please send in your box tops!

Class Chapel: Our third grade class chapel is May 12th. Parents are welcome to come watch! Details will be coming home soon.

Save the Date: Our spring field trip will be May 24th! More details to come.

Weekly Newsletter – April 3

Good Morning! Can you believe that it is already April? It is crazy to think the school year is winding down. We have a few things going on this week. Here is what you need to know.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are continuing to learn about prepositions and prepositional phrases. We started this before testing week and we are coming back to it now.

Bible: This week we will be using the Resurrection Eggs to talk about the Easter story! Everyone is very excited about this 🙂

Reading: In our reading groups this week we are learning how to write a good summary, answering comprehension questions, practicing our cursive, and working on our dictionary skills. We are also continuing to work through our alphabet books.

Math: We are still working on measuring. This week we are looking at the metric system. Specifically mL, L, g, and kg. We are also going to be studying temperature. We might have a quiz on Friday. Still deciding 🙂

Science: We are starting a unit over the human body. This week we are learning about bones, muscles, and joints.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. Our words this week deal with the pattern VCCCV.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: 1 Timothy 4:12 – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Verse for after Spring Break:  Matthew 22:37-38 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.

Odds and Ends:

Box Tops: We are collecting labels in chapel this week. Please send in any labels or Coke Rewards by Wednesday so they can be cut and sorted.

Easter Party: Our class Easter party will be Friday at 2:30. You are welcome to join us!

Helicopter Egg Drop: This Saturday Grace Church is hosting the Helicopter Egg Drop and we would love for you to join us! The eggs will drop at 11:00. Click here for more details. Hope to see you there!

Spring Break: Spring Break is next week! Praying for wonderful weather and a relaxing week 🙂

Weekly Newsletter – February 27

Good Morning! Just wanted to say a quick thank you to all of you who came and supported the Auction this weekend. We greatly appreciate your investment in Wooster Christian! Also, I know many of you were instrumental in making the Auction happen. Thank you for your hard work!

Here are a few things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing adjectives and article adjectives (a, an, the) this week. We will also be reviewing the 4 types of sentences.

Bible: We are almost done with the life of Joseph!

Reading: We are starting a new activity in reading this week! One of the big projects we do is Alphabet Books. We do most of the work in class but I will need some help in the beginning. Just wanted to plant the bug in your ear. I will send home a parent letter later this week.

Math: We are working on learning what mean and median are this week, along with arrangements and combinations. If all goes as planned we will be having a Math test later this week. I will let you know by Wednesday.

Social Studies: We are working our way through the states! We had fun learning about the states in the Northeast region last week, and talking about Washington DC, New York City, and Plymouth Rock. We will be having a quiz over the Northeast states on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Spelling: Our words this week deal with the r sound. Our test is on Friday!

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 23:4 – Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Class Pictures: We will be taking our class picture Wednesday March 15. Just a heads up!

No School: There is no school Friday March 17th due to a teacher in service day.

Third Quarter: The end of the 3rd quarter is Thursday March 16th.

Testing Week: Test will be March 27-31. Please make sure that as you are scheduling doctors appointments, etc that you try to avoid that week. It is very hard to make up tests so we want to avoid that as much as possible. Thanks!

Weekly Newsletter – February 21

Good Afternoon! I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend 🙂 The weather was perfect for a few days off. Just to make you smile this afternoon… Here is a picture of the puppy that my husband and I got this weekend. We are very excited 🙂 I told the kids this morning and there was quite a lot of squealing!

Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are continuing to learn how to identify and label the different parts of speech in a sentence. This week we will be adding adjectives to the list.

Bible: We are continuing through the life of Joseph!

Reading: This week we are learning how to summarize a story. We are also working through some words in our story that we may be unfamiliar with.

Math: We are continuing to learn about graphing! Today we did a fun activity learning how to graph and we surveyed our class to help us learn. We are also going to be talking about circle graphs, mean, median, and mode this week.

Social Studies: We are starting a new unit tomorrow over the states! We will be learning all of the fifty states and some fun facts about them as we go. Tomorrow a paper will go home with the different regions we will be studying and the states in that region.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday! Our words focus on irregular plural words.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 23:3 – he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Next Week’s Verse: Psalm 23:4 – Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Weekly Newsletter – January 30

Good Morning! Looks like winter finally decided to show back up. We are officially at 99 days of school! Crazy to think about for sure. Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are starting a new unit where we will be labeling the different parts of speech in a sentence. We will be doing this and learning more parts of speech for almost of the rest of the year. I will be sending home some English homework just to keep you up to speed with where we are at.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through the life of Joseph! We got a little behind last week so we will be playing a little bit of catch up this week.

Reading: This week we are focusing on a few different things. First we are going to be working on the vocabulary that is in our story. Second we will be learning about news articles and how they are written. We might even get into the newspaper business ourselves 🙂

Math: We are continuing to work through division. We are going to be wrapping it up this week! We will continue with timed test. They are on Tuesday and Friday this week.

Science: We started our Space unit last week! We learned about the history of space travel and this week we will be learning about the solar system!

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday. Our words this week are all dealing with different suffixes.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: No verse. Speech meet is due February 10th! Please be studying!

Next Week’s Verse: No verse. Speech meet is due in a few days! Please be practicing!

Odds and Ends:

100th Day of School: Tomorrow is the 100th day of school! We will be doing some fun in class activities to celebrate!

Letters of Intent: As we plan for next year it helps us to have some idea of what our enrollment might be. If you have not turned in your letter of intent please do so that way we can make plans for next year!

Speech Meet: Selections will be due Friday February, 10. We will be partnering with the fourth grade and will be presenting all together. Please remember that memorization AND expression are both important.

Auction: Save the Date! Our school auction will be held at Church of the Savior this year on February 25th. Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend! If you are willing to help with the auction please contact the office.

Box Tops: Please send these in by Wednesday so we can turn them in on Friday!

Valentine’s Party: Our party will be at 2:30 on Valentine’s Day (Feb 14th). We will be passing out Valentine’s just before the party, and we will make bags in class that week. I will send a class list home next week!

Weekly Newsletter – January 3

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. I know ours was very busy, but definitely lots of fun! Here are a few things to know for this week:

What We Are Learning:

English: We are working on plural possessive nouns this week. We will also be reviewing singular possessive nouns.

Bible: We are starting the life of Joseph this week! We will be learning about how God used him even in the hardest of circumstances.

Reading: This week we are doing some comprehension questions and we are working on following directions. We are also going to be talking about the main idea of a passage.

Math: We are going to spend the week doing some multiplication review. We did not take a timed test today, but we will have one on Friday.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday. Our words focus on consonant sounds.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

Next Week’s Verse: Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Odds and Ends:

Auction Basket: We have the chocolate lovers basket! Please be sending in stuff to fill our basket. There is a green bin outside my room for donations.

Family Night: This week our school is having a family night at Chipotle! Join us for a night of good food and a portion of the proceeds will go to our school. Contact the office with questions. I believe flyers will be sent home this week.

Box Tops: Box tops are due TOMORROW. Please send in any box tops and coke rewards that you have. We didn’t turn any in last month so hopefully we can turn a lot in this month!

Grading Period: This Friday is the end of the grading period. Grade cards will be going home next Friday.

No School: There is no school January 16th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be January 26th. I will be sending papers home later this week.

Save the Date: The Auction is on February 25th!
