Weekly Newsletter – January 17

Good Afternoon! I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. We finally celebrated one last Christmas (just a tad late) and enjoyed our day off on Monday. Here are a few things to know this week.

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are continuing to learn about verbs. We will have a small quiz on Thursday over our linking verbs (am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been). There will be a study sheet in take home folders tonight.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. The words focus on the prefixes un, re, mis, and dis.

Reading: This week we are focusing on characters, setting, and the plot of a story. We are also talking about prefixes and suffixes.

Bible: We are working through the life of Joseph. This week we are talking about Joseph and Potipher.

Math: We started division last week! We are going to be continuing through that this week. We will do some review on Friday too. We took a timed test today and we have another one on Friday.

Social Studies: We are learning about the life of Martin Luther King Jr. this week. We will be looking at his early life and studying his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 118:1 – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (A short, but good one)

Next Week’s Verse: No verse. Please be practicing for Speech Meet!

Spelling Words: unhappy, recall, disappear, unload, mistake, misspell, dislike, replace, mislead, disagree, rewrite, unroll, unknown, dishonest, react, unfortunate, discourage, uncomfortable, recycle, mispronounce. Bonus: homophone

Odds and Ends:

Grade Card Envelopes: Please send these back in this week!

Letters of Intent: These went home with report cards last week. Please turn those in as soon as possible as it helps us plan for next year.

Speech Meet: Selections will be due Friday February, 10. We will be partnering with the fourth grade and will be presenting all together. Please remember that memorization AND expression are both important.

Auction: Save the Date! Our school auction will be held at Church of the Savior this year on February 25th. Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend!
