Weekly Newsletter – November 7

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you enjoyed that extra hour of sleep Saturday night. Here are a few things to know for this week:

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are doing some writing review with paragraphs.

Bible: We have moved into the life of Jacob! This week we will be learning about Jacob’s dream and what it meant.

Reading: We are wrapping up Ramona this week. We will be talking about the author’s purpose of writing the story and thinking about what we can learn.

Math: We are starting multiplication this week! Don’t worry that feeling you have in the pit of your stomach…I have it too. But it’s going to be awesome! A letter went home last week with details about how we do multiplication so let me know if you have any questions. Starting today everyone will be moved to multiplication on XtraMath. I know it can be frustrating so please shoot me an email with any concerns and we can work out a plan. The most important thing that can be done at home is practice. PLEASE be practicing math facts at home! Thank you 🙂

Science: We are wrapping up our unit over matter this week. We had so much fun last week with different experiments! We will be having a quiz on Thursday. We will review in class and a review sheet will go home on Wednesday.

Spelling: Our test this week is on Friday, and our words will be focusing on plural nouns.

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Luke 2:8,9 – And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

Next Week’s Verse: Luke 2:10 – But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”

Spelling Words: rockets, galaxies, heroes, glasses, brushes, switches, sheep, telescopes, pennies, mice, women, potatoes, geese, shelves, knives, moose, people, churches, schools, princesses. Bonus: Thanksgiving

Odds and Ends:

Operation Christmas Child: In chapel three weeks ago we watched a video from Samaritan’s Purse about Operation Christmas Child. Many of you have done this in the past, but for those of you who haven’t, this is an organization that seeks to provide millions of Christmas gifts for children all over the world. It is something we participate in as a school! Information went home last week about how to pack boxes and what to buy. Boxes will be due the Friday before Thanksgiving and we would love it if each student could put together a box! For more information visit https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/

Report Cards Envelopes: If you happen to still have your report card envelope please send that back in ASAP. Thanks!

Picture Retakes: Picture retakes are this Wednesday if you are interested in having that done. Please return the old pictures on Wednesday if you would like new ones.

No School: We do not have school November 23-25 due to Thanksgiving Break.

Midterms: Midterms will be going home November 22.

I think that is it for this week! Have a great Monday 🙂

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey
