Weekly Newsletter – October 24

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Our weekend was very busy, but it was excellent. We saw 243 people ask Jesus into their lives this weekend at church! I’m a little excited about it 🙂 Here are a few things to know for this week.

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are continuing to work on writing a good paragraph. We are going to be talking about what we want to be when we grow up and then writing a good, complete paragraph about it.

Bible: This week are are focusing on Abraham and Isaac, and we will be transitioning out of Abraham’s story into Isaac’s story.

Reading: We are continuing to work our way through Ramona. We are working on chapter 6 this week and we will be having a small quiz on Wednesday over the chapters so far. We will review in class for this quiz.

Science: We are starting a new unit in science this week. We are going to be learning about matter!

Math: We are continuing to do regrouping in subtraction this week. We are going to be doing some subtraction bingo today and working on subtraction word problems too.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week! The test will be on THURSDAY since it is a short week. We are focusing on contractions.

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Luke 2:5 – He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

Next Week’s Verse: Luke 2:6-7 – While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

*Start studying this one early! It’s a little longer!

Spelling Words: aren’t, they’ll, shouldn’t, that’s, I’m, you’d, it’s, weren’t, they’d, wouldn’t, we’ll, let’s, couldn’t, there’s, they’ve, we’re, you’re, might’ve, direct, captain. Bonus: language

Odds and Ends:

No School: There is no school on Friday do to a teacher in service day. Enjoy the long weekend!

Conferences and Grade Cards: Conferences are tomorrow and Thursday. You should have received a time slot last week. Report Cards will be sent home during your conference time.

Box Tops: Please send in box tops by next Wednesday!

Homework Logs: Please make sure that homework logs are getting initialed each time your student does their math and reading. As a reminder, math needs to be done for 10 minutes 5 days a week and reading needs to be done for 15 minutes 5 days a week. This can really effect a child’s grade when it is not done.

Operation Christmas Child: In chapel on Friday, we watched a video from Samaritan’s Purse about Operation Christmas Child. Many of you have done this in the past, but for those of you who haven’t, this is an organization that seeks to provide millions of Christmas gifts for children all over the world. It is something we participate in as a school! More information will be going home this week, but I just wanted to go ahead and plant the bug in your ear. Boxes will be due the Friday before Thanksgiving and we would love it if each student could put together a box! I think that is it for this week! Have a wonderful Monday! 🙂

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey
