Weekly Newsletter – September 13

Good Morning! I hope you all had another great long weekend and got to enjoy some time at the fair. I told the kids this morning that I think my stomach still hurts from all the fair food I ate 🙂 Here are some things to know for this week.

What We Are Learning:

Reading: This week we will be working on our expression as we read and we will be discussing hyperbole and exaggeration. Things that third graders are very good at 🙂

Math: This week we will be wrapping up chapter one. We are finishing up rounding numbers and counting money. We will hopefully have a review day next Monday and a test next Tuesday (this is subject to change).

English: We are learning about the different types of sentences this week. We are starting with declarative and interrogative sentences.

Science: We are wrapping up our ecology unit and our animal projects this week. We will hopefully have a quiz/test sometime next week.

Bible: This week we are starting our unit over the life of Abraham. We will be talking about how God asks us to do things (sometimes things we don’t like) and we need to follow him because he knows what is best. We are also adding 5 more books to our quiz for Friday (1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra)

Spelling: We are learning about words with -ed, -ing, -er, -est endings this week. We will be reviewing some in class but please make sure you are practicing at home.

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse:1 Corinthians 16:13-14 – Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Do everything in love. (DUE TOMORROW)

Next Week’s Verse:  Matthews 5:14-15 – You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Spelling Words: using, getting, easiest, swimming, heavier, greatest, pleased, emptied, leaving, worried, strangest, freezing, funniest, angrier, shopped, included, occurred, supplying, scarier, happiest. Bonus: collaborate

Odds and Ends:

Eagle Cards: The next turn in day is TOMORROW! Please keep selling those Eagle Cards!

#forwaynecounty: So far we have filled 4 bags full of canned goods! We are really hoping to make our goal of ten bags by Friday! Please keep bringing cans in so we can help those who are food insecure in our county.

Midterms: Midterms are coming home next Friday! Can you believe we are almost halfway through the first grading period? Crazy.

Picture Day: School picture day for the third grade is September 28th. Forms will be coming home soon!

Fall Field Trip: I am still trying to get this scheduled so as soon as I know a date I will let you know when and where we are going!

I think that is it for this week! Let me know if you have any questions 🙂
