Weekly Newsletter – September 26

Good Morning! I looked at the calendar this morning and I could not believe it is the end of September! We are halfway through the first grading period and we are moving into fall. Crazy to think about. Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are learning about conjunctions! We pulled a little Schoolhouse Rock music out and are working on conjunction trains. We also had a pop quiz over the different types of sentences.

Bible: We are continuing to learn about the life of Abraham. This week we are focusing on him settling in the promise land and God fulfilling His promise to Abraham. We will also be adding 5 more books! (Ecclesiates, Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations)

Reading: This week wee are learning about prefixes and suffixes and similes and metaphors. We are also working on vocabulary words that we read in our weekly story.

Math: We are starting our next chapter in math this week. We are going to be working on addition with grouping.

Social Studies: We are starting our first social studies unit this week. One of the things we use in third grade is called “Social Studies Community Weekly.” It is a newspaper that lets us focus on different social studies lessons and teaches us about different parts of Ohio!

Spelling: This week we are focusing on the “ou” sound.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against such thing there is no law.

Next Week’s Verse: Romans 1:16 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

Spelling Words: proud, shower, hour, amount, voyage, choice, avoid, thousand, prowl, employ, bounce, poison, annoy, appoint, broil, however, mountain, coward, turmoil, chowder. Bonus: wobbled.

 

Odds and Ends:

Picture Day: This Wednesday is third grade picture day! If you are purchasing pictures please make sure to send the form in with your student on Wednesday.

Eagle Cards: The final turn in date for Eagle Cards was last Wednesday. However, we are very close to our goal so if you still have Eagle Cards at home go ahead and sell them! Please make sure all unsold Eagle Cards are returned to the office.

Handbooks: Please make sure that the handbook paper is returned signed this week.

Field Trip: We are going to the zoo! Information went home last week about our fall field trip. Please get money and permission slips to me by Wednesday.

Box Tops: These are due next week so please send in what you have by next Wednesday so we can get them cut!

Conference Forms: Please make sure that conference forms are sent back by October 7th. Once I have everyone’s forms in I will begin to put together a schedule.

Grandparents Day: Grandparents Day is coming! October 14th will be the day of our program and Grandparents Day. Please remember that we have early release that day at 11:30. There is no Kids Time after schoool.

Weekly Newsletter – September 19

Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Well, we are back to having 5 day weeks…what are we going to do?!? 🙂 Here are a few things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are working on the four types of sentences this week (Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative, Exclamatory). We do have a homework paper over this tonight so please check your child’s folder.

Math: We are wrapping up chapter 1 this week. We will be reviewing on Wednesday in class and taking a test on Thursday.

Reading: This week we are learning about comparing and contrasting in a story, and we are learning how to look for details in a story and how they help us learn.

Science: We are reviewing our science unit this week and we will be taking a quiz on Thursday. We will be moving on to Social Studies next week.

Bible: We are adding 5 more books this week (Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalm, Proverbs). We are continuing on with learning about Abraham!

Spelling: This week we are working on vowel sounds in our spelling words. Please make sure you are practicing with your student at home and that they are bringing back their homework on Tuesdays.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Matthews 5:14-15 – You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Odds and Ends:

Eagle Cards: Wednesday is the final turn in date for Eagle Cards! Please help your student sell those cards, and don’t forget to turn everything in on Wednesday.

Midterms: These are going home on Friday. If your student is missing work I might be sending it home so it gets finished. Please be checking folders.

Handbooks: The parent/student handbook is being sent home today. Please sign the front page and return it to school by September 30th.

Fall Field Trip: We are going to the Columbus Zoo! I am so sorry that it has taken so long to get this scheduled. Schedules have been crazy. We are planning on going on October 5th, and parents are welcome. Forms will be going home later this week.

Picture Day: Third grade picture day is September 28th. Forms will be coming home soon.

Weekly Newsletter – September 13

Good Morning! I hope you all had another great long weekend and got to enjoy some time at the fair. I told the kids this morning that I think my stomach still hurts from all the fair food I ate 🙂 Here are some things to know for this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

Reading: This week we will be working on our expression as we read and we will be discussing hyperbole and exaggeration. Things that third graders are very good at 🙂

Math: This week we will be wrapping up chapter one. We are finishing up rounding numbers and counting money. We will hopefully have a review day next Monday and a test next Tuesday (this is subject to change).

English: We are learning about the different types of sentences this week. We are starting with declarative and interrogative sentences.

Science: We are wrapping up our ecology unit and our animal projects this week. We will hopefully have a quiz/test sometime next week.

Bible: This week we are starting our unit over the life of Abraham. We will be talking about how God asks us to do things (sometimes things we don’t like) and we need to follow him because he knows what is best. We are also adding 5 more books to our quiz for Friday (1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra)

Spelling: We are learning about words with -ed, -ing, -er, -est endings this week. We will be reviewing some in class but please make sure you are practicing at home.

This Week’s Verse:1 Corinthians 16:13-14 – Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Do everything in love. (DUE TOMORROW)

#forwaynecounty: So far we have filled 4 bags full of canned goods! We are really hoping to make our goal of ten bags by Friday! Please keep bringing cans in so we can help those who are food insecure in our county.

Midterms: Midterms are coming home next Friday! Can you believe we are almost halfway through the first grading period? Crazy.

Picture Day: School picture day for the third grade is September 28th. Forms will be coming home soon!

Fall Field Trip: I am still trying to get this scheduled so as soon as I know a date I will let you know when and where we are going!

Weekly Newsletter – September 6

Good Morning! I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. It sounds like everyone had lots of fun this weekend. Here are a few things to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are continuing to work on the subject and the predicate in a sentence.

Math: We are spending this week learning about the ten thousands and the hundred thousands place value. We will also start rounding this week!

Bible: We are adding 5 more books to our Books of the Bible quiz this week. On Friday students will need to know the first 10 books (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel) We will also be starting the story of Abraham this week.

Reading: This week we will be looking at the order of a story and how that helps us understand what is happening in the story. We will also continue to work on Alphabetical Order and comprehension questions.

Spelling: We took our spelling pre-test today, so the corrections are due tomorrow. Our test is on Friday and we are working on words that are plural.

Science: This we we are continuing to learn about ecology. We are working on animal project this week as well!

 

Bible Verse:

This Week’s Verse: Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go

#forwaynecounty: We are collecting cans to help fight food insecurity in our county! Our goal is to fill 10 reusable shopping bags (that are in my room) by next Thursday. Our class gets lerch’s donuts if they meet the goal! Encourage your students to may spend some of their money to help kids in Wayne County. Let me know if you have any questions, or check out the Grace Church facebook page for more information!

Remind 101:If you have not signed up for Remind yet please do so! Just go to this website and click on this link  (https://www.remind.com/join/4437k)  and enter your phone number. This makes it easy for me to quickly communicate any reminders that are important or anything I might have forgotten to mention in class that day. Most everyone has signed up!

Kids Time and Transportation Changes: Please make sure to tell your kids what they are doing after school each day. This helps our end of the day routine immensely. If there are any changes during the day, feel free to email me or contact the office.

Take Home Folder: Each night your child will be bringing home their Take Home folder. Please check this nightly for any homework and make sure it gets sent back the next day.

Homework Logs: This week we have added a homework log to our take home folders. One side will have our nightly homework (tests, quizzes, worksheets, etc) Please initial this side each night. The other side will have a space for math and reading. Students are required to do 10 minutes of XtraMath 5 times a week and 15 minutes of reading (any book) 5 times a week. I do not average times together so students must do each subject 5 different days.

Box Tops: Start sending in those Box Tops! Our first turn in date is in October.

No School: We do not have school next Monday due to it being Fair Day! We will also have a delayed start on Tuesday. School does not start until 11:00.
