If students get everything correct on the pretest they do not have to take the test on Fridays.

Odds and Ends:

Remind 101:If you have not signed up for Remind yet please do so! Just go to this website and click on this link  (https://www.remind.com/join/4437k)  and enter your phone number. This makes it easy for me to quickly communicate any reminders that are important or anything I might have forgotten to mention in class that day.

Eagle Cards: Eagle Card packets went home on Thursday. If you have any questions about Eagle Cards feel free to contact the office. Please please please have your kids sell their Eagle Cards. This is a great fundraiser for our school and it doesn’t hurt that the kids can win a few prizes. The first turn in day is Wednesday and the first prize table is Friday!

Kids Time and Transportation Changes: Please make sure to tell your kids what they are doing after school each day. This helps our end of the day routine immensely. If there are any changes during the day, feel free to email me or contact the office.

Take Home Folder: Each night your child will be bringing home their Take Home folder. Please check this nightly for any homework and make sure it gets sent back the next day.

Homework Logs: This week we have added a homework log to our take home folders. One side will have our nightly homework (tests, quizzes, worksheets, etc) Please initial this side each night. The other side will have a space for math and reading. Students are required to do 10 minutes of XtraMath 5 times a week and 15 minutes of reading (any book) 5 times a week. I do not average times together so students must do each subject 5 different days. In today’s take home folders are instructions for signing up for XtraMath. Please follow the instructions even if you already have an XtraMath account, otherwise it does not get linked to my account and then I have no way of helping your student when they pass different levels.

Box Tops: Start sending in those Box Tops! Our first turn in date is in October.

No School: We will not have school next Monday (Labor Day) or the following Monday (Fair Day).

#forwaynecounty: In Wayne County, there are so many families that are food insecure. They have no idea where there next meal is coming from. We want to change that. Grace Church, along with the entire county, is collected canned goods to feed Wayne County. We are filling resuable grocery bags and bringing canned food to the Grace Church fair booth. We are hoping to make a difference in Wayne County and our third grade class can help! Starting Wednesday there will be some of the grocery bags in my classroom. Our goal will be to fill 10 (or more) bags by fair week! There will be a prize for our class at the end if we meet our goal 🙂 Help us make a different in Wayne County! Check out this video for more information.

Tardies: Please make sure your child is on time for school each more. I am being gracious with tardies this week, but next week students must be at their desk when the 9:00 bell rings.

Scholastic Book Club: Make sure to check out the September flyer on the helpful websites page and this blog post on how to sign up! This is a great way to order books for your students and keep them reading!

I think that is it for this week! Hope you all have a wonderful Monday 🙂

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey

Scholastic Book Club – Introduction

Dear Families,

Encouraging reading is one of the most important things we can do to help your child succeed. It can be tough finding the right books to keep them interested, which is why I am so excited that our class will be participating in the Scholastic Reading Club this school year.

With Scholastic Reading Club:

  • Every book you buy earns FREE books for our classroom library.
  • You can choose from handpicked, grade and reading level specific books for your child.
  • You’ll find the best values on a variety of formats, including eBooks.

Each month, I will post the Reading Club flyer on the blog. Together you and your child can choose from books hand-selected by teachers and experts and then order online or print the order form and return your order form and payment to me. The Helpful Websites page will have the link that will take you to the Scholastic Store and the Flyers.

Thank you for your support.

  • VISIT scholastic.com/readingclub
  • ENTER the one-time Class Activation Code – MLJY7
  • SHOP from a carefully curated selection of the best books, value packs, and Stoira eBooks.
  • SUBMIT your order and earn FREE Books for our classroom.
  • All the book orders will be shipped to the school and will be sent home with your child (If the books are gifts just let me know ahead of time!)

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at cstarkey@woosterchristianschool.com

This is a totally optional program! It is a great way to encourage your child to read and for them to choose what they want to read. The September letter will be posted on the blog today. Orders will be due by September 28th (either online or turned into me).

Welcome to Third Grade!

Welcome to a new school year! For some of you, starting here at Wooster Christian is old news and for others this is your first year here. I hope each and every one of you had a great summer. This blog is where I will be posting our weekly newsletters and any other class information. Newsletters will be posted by 4:00 pm each Monday and if I do post any updates I will make sure to send an email or text update letting you know.

Here is what you need to know for this week:

What We Are Learning:

-We will be spending the week getting to know each other and doing some review from last year.

*Normally in this section I would list what we are doing in each subject, because this is the beginning of the year I am keeping things simple.

Odds and Ends:

–Remind 101: One of the ways that I communicate with parents quickly is through a texting program called Remind. You do not need a smartphone or the app for this. All you need to do is click on this link (https://www.remind.com/join/4437k)  and enter your phone number. This makes it easy for me to quickly communicate any reminders that are important or anything I might have forgotten to mention in class that day.

–Eagle Cards: Eagle Card packets will be going home on Thursday. If you have any questions about Eagle Cards feel free to contact the office. Please please please have your kids sell their Eagle Cards. This is a great fundraiser for our school and it doesn’t hurt that the kids can win a few prizes.

–Kids Time and Transportation Changes: Please make sure to tell your kids what they are doing after school each day. This helps our end of the day routine immensely. If there are any changes during the day, feel free to email me or contact the office.

–Take Home Folder: Each night your child will be bringing home their Take Home folder. Please check this nightly for any homework and make sure it gets sent back the next day. We will be adding a homework log to it next week.

-Parent Volunteers: In your child’s take home folder is a parent volunteer letter. Please fill it out and return it by next Monday!

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

Every week we do a Bible Verse on Wednesday and a Spelling Test on Friday. Both will be listed in this section, along with the due date. This week, obviously, there is no Bible Verse or Spelling Test. However we will have both next week. When we do our Bible Verse, all I ask is that students know the reference and the verse and they will just say it to me. Spelling words will be written out.

This Week’s Bible Verse: None.

Next Week’s Bible Verse: Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Due 8/31)

Spelling Words: None.

I think that is it for this week! Thanks for all you do, and let me know if you have any questions!

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey
