Weekly Newsletter – March 28

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break and a great Easter. The weather yesterday was absolutely beautiful…hopefully it comes back 🙂 Here are some things to know for the week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing prepositions today and we are adding a noun job chart as well. We will focus on this most of the week.

Math: We are continuing to work on different types of graphing. We will look at line plots and learn what mean and median mean.

*Sundae Math: We will be having our Sundae Party on Friday April 15th! Those students who have finished their multiplication facts will get to participate in the Sundae Party. I will be sending home a letter later this week with more information 🙂

Reading: This week we are going to be learning about the causes and effects in a story. We are also going to be practicing how to write a good summary.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through the life of Joseph. We will talk about how his brothers came to visit him in Egypt.

Spelling: This week we are working on syllables and the spelling pattern vowel-consonant-consonant-consonant-vowel.

Writing: We are continuing to plug away at our alphabet books! Those who need a little more time will be bringing their papers home tonight to help them get ahead.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 23:6 – Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Next Week’s Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Spelling Words: monster, surprise, hundred, complete, control, sample, instant, inspect, pilgrim, contrast, explode, district, address, substance, children, merchant, embrace, purchase, curtsy, contract. Bonus: extraordinary

 

Odds and Ends:

Grade Card Envelopes: Please get these returned to me by Friday!

Box Tops: Please get this turned in by Wednesday!

Class Chapel: Save the date! Our class will be doing chapel on April 22nd.

Elementary Testing: Our testing this year will be April 18-22. Please make sure that doctors appointments, etc are not made during this week. It is important that all students are present!

Early Enrollment Deadline: The deadline for early enrollment is this Friday. Contact the office if you have any questions.

Weekly Newsletter – March 14

Five more days until Spring Break! That was one of the first things students told me this morning 🙂 Can’t say I blame them, I am ready for a little time off too. I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend and that the time change didn’t mess you all up too much. Here is what is going on this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing prepositions this week. These are not easy things to understand so I want to make sure we are not rushing through them. We will also work on subject/verb agreement if we have a time.

Math: We took a math quiz today over the first part of chapter 7 today. We are continuing through and learning about circle graphs, line plots, line plots, and median and mean this week. We will wrap this chapter up after break. We do have a timed test on Tuesday and on Friday. We are not going to be able to have our Sundae Party before break but we are very close! Keep practicing and encouraging your students.

Reading: This week we are working on contraction, comprehension, and we will be working on our Alphabet Books.

Social Studies: This week we are talking about traveling the United States, the U.S. government, and doing a quick survey of U.S. history.

Bible: This week we are focusing on the Easter Story by using the Resurrection Eggs! Hopefully this will be a fun way of learning about the Resurrection of Christ.

Spelling: We do have a test this week. We are working on different suffixes.

This Week’s Verse: Psalm 23:5 – You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.

Verse for After Spring Break: Psalm 23:6 – Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Spelling Words: dentist, seller, artist, hostess, actress, swimmer, editor, tutor, tourist, organist, lioness, shipper, chemist, investor, conductor, announcer, pharmacist, journalist, commuter, pianist. Bonus: Easter

 

Odds and Ends:

Picture Day: Spring Picture day is this WEDNESDAY. Please turn in a form if you plan on ordering a class picture.

Easter Party: Our Easter party is this Friday at 2:30. Contact Jewel Mast if you are willing to help!

Spring Break: Spring Break is next week, so no school!

Speech Meet: Congratulations to all of our Speech Meet participants for all of their hard work and effort! So proud of all of you!

Report Cards: These will be going home on Friday. Please remember that I am updating grades throughout the week, so please be patient with ProgressBook.

Weekly Newsletter – March 7

Happy Monday! Can you believe the weather we are supposed to have this week? Maybe spring is going to come early after all 🙂 Here is what you need to know this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are working on prepositions this week and how to find a prepositional phrase in a sentence.

Math: This week we are working on graphing. We will be doing some graphing with Skittles tomorrow and taking a class survey too. We will have a short quiz over graphing later this week. We also have a timed test today.

Reading: This week we are focusing on facts and opinions in a story, and learning how to see what a story is about based on a short summary, the title, and the cover.

Social Studies: We are wrapping up our unit over features in our state and mapping this week. We will be taking a quiz on Thursday.

Bible: We are continuing to learn about the life of Joseph. We do have a Bible Verse due on Wednesday.

Spelling: We do have a test this week on THURSDAY! The words will be focusing on different prefixes.

Writing: We are continuing to work on Alphabet books. I finalized topics with students today. If you could make sure they bring in books by Wednesday that would be great!

Odds and Ends:

No School: We do not have school this Friday (March 11) due to a Teacher In-Service Day. Spring break is from March 21-March 25.

End of the Grading Period: Thursday marks the end of the 3rd grading period. Can you believe we are 3/4 of the way through the school year?! Grade cards will be going home before Spring Break.

Speech Meet: Speech Meet is on Saturday! Be praying for our students who are participating.

Class Pictures: Our class picture is on Wednesday March 16th. If you would like to order a class picture please turn in the order form that was sent home last week.
