Weekly Newsletter – February 1

Good Morning! I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather we had this weekend. No usual January weather, but I’m not complaining 🙂 There is a lot going on this week so read carefully!

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are going to start practicing how to label sentences with the parts of speech. We will also be taking the second part of our helping verbs quiz on Thursday.

Math: We are jumping into division this week! We will also be taking timed tests on Tuesday and Friday.

Reading: This week we are focusing on unfamiliar words and using the context of the story to help us figure out what they mean. We are also wrapping up Right to Read Week since we started a day late.

Bible: We are still working our way through the life of Joseph. We are back to weekly Bible Verses this week. Check below!

Spelling: We do have spelling homework tonight and a spelling test on Friday. We are focusing on words with the endings -ly, -ful, -ness, -less.

Science: We are learning about the solar system this week!

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: 1 John 4:13-14 – This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

Next Week’s Verse: Psalm 118:1 – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (A short, but good one)

Spelling Words: daily, safely, kindness, finally, quietly, worthless, illness, helpful, beautiful, suddenly, wireless, spotless, fairness, cheerful, painful, anxiously, thoughtfully, cautiously, tardiness, breathless. Bonus: catastrophe

Odds and Ends:

Speech Meet: We did our Speech Meet verses, poems, and fables on Friday with the 4th graders. Everyone did very well and I am so proud of them! Grade sheets will be going home this week and will be posted this week as well. The winners were announced today in class…

Poem: Annelise Amstutz and Alexis Walker

Fable: Micah Schlegel and Ryland Robinson

Bible Verse: Tiana Mast and Joey Clabaugh

Congrats everyone!

School Auction: The School Legacy Auction is on February 27th. Please make plans to attend and invite family and friends! This is a great way to support our school!

Report Card Envelopes: I am still missing some envelopes. Please get those turned in to me as soon as possible.

Pajama Day: Friday we will be celebrating Pajama Day with the rest of the elementary school! We are incredibly excited! We will also be watching a movie (TBD) and enjoying a fun snack. Students are free to bring in a pillow/blanket to enjoy the movie on. Please make sure that pajamas follow dress code guidelines.

No School: We do not have school February 12th and February 15th.

Valentine’s Day Party: Our party is coming soon! February 11th at 2:30 will be the Valentine’s Day party. We will be passing out Valentines during the party. A class list will come home later this week. Please remember that valentines must be made for the whole class, not a select few, or not at all. We will be decorating bags that week to keep our valentines in. An email/letter from Jewel Mast with ways you can help!

Midterms: Midterms will be going home next Thursday as well. Crazy to think we are halfway through the 3rd grading period.

Box Tops: These are due on Wednesday!

That’s it!

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey
