Weekly Newsletter – January 25

Good Morning! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I had the pleasure of spending the weekend with 2,000+ high school and middle school students at the Kalahari Retreat. It was such an amazing weekend and God did so many amazing things! Here is what you need to know this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are focusing on helping verbs. A pink sheet should be in your students take home folder for them to study. We are taking a quiz on Tuesday over the “Be” verbs and on Thursday we will take a quiz over all the helping verbs.

Math: We do have timed tests on Tuesday and Friday. We are also starting division this week!

Reading: This week we are focusing on Metaphors, Graphic Sources, and new vocabulary.

Bible: We are continuing to work our way through the life of Joseph. We are also in the New Testament now for our “What’s in the Bible?” movies.

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday, and there is spelling homework tonight.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: None. SPEECH MEET IS DUE ON FRIDAY!

Next Week’s Verse: 1 John 4:13-14 – This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

Spelling Words: clock, large, page, mark, kitten, judge, crack, edge, pocket, brake, change, ridge, jacket, badge, orange, ceiling, advantage, pledge, detect, pencil. Bonus: microscopic

Report Card Envelopes: Please get these back to me ASAP. Thanks!

Conferences: Conferences are tomorrow night for those of you who have scheduled a meeting.

Right to Read Week: This week we are celebrating Right to Read Week! We will be setting daily goals in class, and students can win prizes if they meet their goal!

Auction Basket: Please send in stuff to fill our auction basket! It’s looking a little empty right now. We are the chocolate lovers basket! This is all due January 29th.

Speech Meet: Verses, poems, and fables are due on Friday. These are for a grade! Please make sure you student is practicing.

Weekly Newsletter – January 19

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful three day weekend and that you are rested up. Here is what you need to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are focusing on helping verbs. We will begin to memorize these this week.

Math: We are working on twelves this week, and learning how to multiply three numbers this week. We took a timed test today and we will also be taking one on Friday.

Reading: This week were are focusing character, plot, and setting. We will be learning how these things are an important part of a play.

Social Studies: We are doing a small unit over Martin Luther King Jr. this week. We will be learning why he is important not only in history, but to us today.

Bible: We are continuing the life of Joseph this week, and we are focusing specifically on his time in Potipher’s house.

Spelling: We are taking our pretest today, so there will be correction homework tonight. We do have a test on Friday.

Next Week’s Verse: None.

Speech Meet: Verses are due January 29th! This week I will be talking with each student about expectations for when they say there verse (expression, volume, etc.)

Grade Card Envelopes: Please return grade card envelopes this week.

Yearbook Forms: This year yearbooks are $11.00. Please return forms to me.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Time slots went home last week for those of you that have conferences next Tuesday.

Weekly Newsletter – January 11

Good Morning! Well, winter has finally decided to join us. Better late than never…I guess. I will be honest and say I was hoping for a little delay this morning 🙂 Here are something to know for this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: This week we are working on action verbs and linking verbs. We will start memorizing our linking verbs in class this week as well.

Math: We are continuing to plug through multiplication this week. We are working on problem solving and 9s and 10s. We also have timed tests on Tuesday and Friday (like usual).

Reading: This week we are learning about contractions and homophones. We are also reading our main story and working on reading comprehension.

Social Studies: We are working on another Community Weekly Newspaper this week and we are learning about our environment. We will also be talking about Martin Luther King Jr. as we head into the holiday.

Bible: This week (and for the next few weeks) we will be learning about the life of Joseph. We are focusing on the story of the colorful coat this week.

Spelling: We are taking our pretest today, so there will be correction homework tonight. Please remember that each word missed needs to be written 3 times correctly. Our spelling test is on Friday and the words are below.

This Week’s Verse: No verse this week. Please be practicing for Speech Meet.

Next Week’s Verse: No verse. Please be practicing for Speech Meet…notice a theme 🙂

Odds and Ends:

No School: We do not have school Monday the 18th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Grade Cards: These will be going home on Friday. Thanks for your patience with grades this week. I am trying to get everything update as quickly as I can. I was sick over break and did not get the grading done. Thanks again!

Auction Basket: Our class is responsible for the Chocolate Lover’s basket. I have a bin outside the room for anything you would like to donate that would fit into that category. If you have any questions about baskets or the auction make sure to contact the office. The Auction is February 27th and we would love to see you all there!

Speech Meet: We do not have a Bible Verse this week or next so that way students can be practicing. I will be touching base with them on Wednesday to see where they are at. The due date for Speech Meet is Friday January 29th.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Many of you have already turned in your forms, but if you haven’t they are due on Wednesday.

Weekly Newsletter – January 4

Welcome back! I hope you all had a great Christmas break, and that you got a little rest too. I know that waking up this morning was a little bit of a shock to my system 🙂 There is a lot to know for this week, so please read carefully!

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing plural nouns this week and adding plural possessive nouns as well.

Math: We are continuing to push through multiplication! We have a timed test on Tuesday and on Friday. Please make sure your student is studying at home each night.

Reading: This week we are focusing on following directions, imagery, and the vocabulary that goes with our story.

Social Studies: We are working on Social Studies Community newspapers this week.

Bible: We are finishing up Jacob this week and we will be moving into the life of Joseph. We also have a verse due this week!

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. The words are listed below. We are also adding something new beginning this week. Each Monday we will be taking a practice spelling test. If your student gets them all right they do not have to take the test on Friday. Whatever words they get wrong they will need to write each one three times for homework Monday night and then turn it in on Tuesday. We will be taking our first practice test today, and the corrections will be due tomorrow.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Next Week’s Verse: No verse. Please be practicing for Speech Meet.

Odds and Ends:

Box Tops: Please turn in Box Tops by Wednesday that way they can get cut and counted before chapel on Friday.

Speech Meet: Verses, poems, and fables will be due Friday, January 29th. These will be recited in front of the class and will be for a grade. Please contact me with any questions.

Grading Period: Friday is the end of the 2nd grading period. I will be making sure that if your child is missing anything that they make it up this week. Grade Cards will be going home next Friday.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences are Tuesday January 26th. You will either get a form saying that no conference is required or on that asks for a conference. Forms will be sent out this week and need to be returned by Wednesday January 13th.

No School: There is no school January 18th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Legacy Auction: Our school auction is February 27th! Mark your calendars to come, and make sure to donate towards are class basket. There is a bin outside my room for donations, and questions can be directed to the office.

 

I think that is it! I also wanted to say thank you for all the gift cards, chocolates, candy, small gifts, and words of encouragement from you and your students for Christmas. I treasure each and every one of your students and I am so blessed to have such a great class.
