Weekly Newsletter – November 9

Good morning! Hope you all are having a wonderful morning. I will say the amount of frost on my car this morning made me a little sad. On the bright side, it’s almost Thanksgiving! Here is what is going on this week:

What We Are Learning:

English: We are working on “When I Grow Up…” paragraphs this week. Students are writing about what they want to be when they grow up and using what we learned about writing a good paragraph. We are also working on the difference between common and proper nouns.

Math: We are wrapping up subtraction this week. We will be reviewing tomorrow and a review sheet will be sent home. Our test will be on Wednesday.

Reading: This week we are talking about the main idea of a story and the details that support it. We are also learning about synonyms!

Science and Social Studies: We are taking our science test today over matter. Tomorrow we will be starting our unit in Social Studies over Captain John Smith and then we will be moving into learning about the pilgrims.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test this week. Our words are listed below!

Bible: We are continuing to learn the Christmas story with our Bible verse. We are wrapping up Abraham and Isaac this week and we will be starting Jacob and Esau.

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Luke 2:10 – But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”

Next Week’s Verse: Luke 2:11-12 – “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Spelling Words: finish, pilot, even, wagon, music, silent, rapid, female, lemon, pupil, focus, robot, tulip, camel, salad, resident, spinach, climate, tradition, innocent. Bonus: snuggles

Odds and Ends:

Operation Christmas Child: Last week a note went home about Operation Christmas Child. This is a great way for your child to serve another child! I would love for each student to do at least one box. These are due November 20th. This is such an incredible way to show God’s love during Christmas.

Picture Retakes: Retakes are on November 11 (Wednesday). Contact the office with any questions!

Thanksgiving Party: Our Thanksgiving Party will be November 24th at 2:30. Be on the look out for information from Mrs. Current and Mrs. Mast on how you can help!

Thanksgiving Break: We do not have school November 25th-27th due to Thanksgiving.

Spirit Day: We will be having an all school Spirit Day on November 24th.

Ohio State Day: On November 23rd our class will be having an Ohio State Spirit Day in honor of the *ichigan game that Saturday 🙂 Come dressed in your favorite scarlet and gray!

I think that is it for this week! Let me know if you have any questions!

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey
