Weekly Newsletter – September 14

Hope you all are having a great fair weekend! Gotta love Wayne County. Growing up in Columbus, we never had fair day so my mom thinks I am crazy when I tell her I get a day off for the fair. She has no idea what she is missing! If you haven’t been to the fair yet, stop by the Grace Church fair booth and help us meet our goal of collecting 350,000 pounds of food! Check out the video below if you haven’t to see how you can be #forwaynecounty.

What We Are Learning:

English: We are continuing to learn about the types of sentences and we are adding two more this week.

Math: This week we are working on rounding and counting money. We will be finishing our first unit this week, so there will be a test in the future.

Reading: We are learning how to compare and contrast different things in a story.

Social Studies: This week we are learning how to use and read a map!

Spelling: We are having a test on Friday. Words are listed below. Please make sure you are helping your child study at home

Bible: We are starting our unit over Abraham this week. We have also been watching a movie once a week called “What’s In The Bible?” It’s by the creator of Veggie Tales and it teaches the entire Bible and also shows how the Bible was put together. It also teaches some of church history. Feel free to check it out online! We do have a verse this week…it’s listed below! We are also doing the next five books of the Bible on Friday (Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs)

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Matthews 5:14-15 – You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. (Due 9/16)

Next Week’s Verse: Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against such thing there is no law. (Due 9/23)

Spelling Words: clean, agree, teeth, dream, grain, coach, display, window, shadow, cheese, peach, braid, Sunday, float, thrown, entertain, complain, bleachers, willow, wheat. Bonus Word: patience

Odds and Ends:

Eagle Cards: This Wednesday is the final turn in day for Eagle Cards! We learned on Friday we are not quite halfway to our school goal. Please help us get there!

Box Tops: Our first Box Top turn in is October 2. Start sending in those Box Tops!

Field Trip: Information about the Field Trip went home on Friday. Let me know if you have any questions!

ProgressBook: As a school, we use ProgressBook to keep parents up to date on attendance, tardies, and grades. Feel free to check it throughout the year, and I will do my best to keep it updated.

Tardies: Parents, please make sure you are getting your child to school on time. Students must be in their seats by 9:00, not outside the room unloading their book bag or walking down the hall. Students are free to come down to the room starting at 8:50.

Delayed Start: Remember that tomorrow we do not start school till 11:00. Kids Time will be available as usual.

Scholastic Book Order: Remember to check out our Scholastic Book Club! The link is on the Helpful Websites page and so is the flyer and letter!

Whew! That was a lot. Thanks for all you do and I hope you had a great long weekend!

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey
