Weekly Newsletter – September 7

Happy Labor Day! Hope you all are enjoying your long weekend. I wanted to go ahead and post the newsletter for this week that way you had all the information you need. In case you didn’t hear, the field trip has been moved form September 24 to the beginning of October. I will let you know the exact date as soon as I get a few things confirmed.

What We Are Learning:

English: We are learning about types of sentences this week. We are focusing on declarative and interrogative sentences.

Math: We are continuing to work on place value and we will be adding rounding numbers this week.

Science: We are wrapping our unit on the environment this week. We will be reviewing in class on Wednesday and taking our test on Thursday.

Reading: We are learning about Hyperbole this week and we will be learning how to write a summary of a story.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday. Words are located below.

Bible: We will be starting our unit over Abraham this week. Students will also need to know the next five books of the Bible (1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra). We do have a Bible Verse this week!

This Week’s Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 – Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Do everything in love. (Due 9/9)

Next Week’s Verse: Matthews 5:14-15 = You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Spelling Words: using, getting, easiest, swimming, heavier, greatest, pleased, emptied, leaving, worried, strangest, freezing, funniest, angrier, shopped, included, occurred, supplying, scarier, happiest. Bonus: September

Odds and Ends:

-Eagle Cards: The third turn in date for Eagle Cards is Wednesday. Our class is in last place! Help us do well this week and sell and turn in those Eagle Cards! If our school reaches 2,500 cards we get a super movie party. Thanks for all you do to help us meet our goal!

-#forwaynecounty: Last week a note was sent home about a movement in our community called #forwaynecounty. In Wayne County, there are so many families that are food insecure. They have no idea where there next meal is coming from. We want to change that. Grace Church, along with the entire county, is collected canned goods to feed Wayne County. The goal is to get 350,000 pounds of food! Help us get to that goal by donating cans at the #forwaynecounty fair booth. Ten cans gets you a free tshirt as a thank you! If you cannot make it to the fair, feel free to send cans to school (tshirts will not be given, but it still an awesome cause). Help us be #forwaynecounty. You can check out the movement on instagram and facebook by searching #forrwaynecounty or click on this link for a video.

-Box Tops: Start sending in those box tops! The first turn in date is October 2

-Scholastic Book Order: Remember to check out our Scholastic Book Club! The letter and flyer are posted again below.

-No School: There is no school September 14 due to Fair Day, and we have a delayed start on September 15. School will start at 11:00

I think that is it for this week! Thanks for all you do, and feel free to email me if you have any questions!

In Christ,

Mrs. Starkey
