Weekly Newsletter – September 28

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I am excited for the fall weather we have coming in the next few days. Summer is my favorite season, but there is something about fall that just makes me happy! A note about midterms: Midterms are just what they sound like…midterms. Grades can change so much between now and the end of the grading period! Please use this to encourage your child to do their best in all of their work as we continue through the year. Here is what is happening this week:

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are reviewing compound sentences, subjects and predicates, and the 4 types of sentences. We will be having a test (including reading material) on Friday.

Math: We will be learning how to add with regrouping this week.

Reading: This week we will continue to go over prefixes and suffixes, along with similes. We will be starting a project called “Fall Is…” where we right similes that describe fall!

Social Studies: We are reviewing mapping this week and we will be having a quiz later this week.

Spelling: Our spelling words this week are review. However, please make sure to study them just as well as every other week! The words are down below.

Bible:  We are working our way through the life of Abraham this week, and in our video we are learning about the books of Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. We are also adding five more books this week to our Bible quiz (Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos). We are over halfway through the Old Testament! Our Bible Verse is listed below as well.

 

Bible Verse and Spelling Words:

This Week’s Verse: Romans 1:16 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

Next Week’s Verse: Luke 2:1,3 – In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. And everyone went to their own town to register.

*From now until Christmas break we will be memorizing the Christmas story!

Spelling Words: suggest, problem, lettuce, subject, families, supplies, inches, pennies, included, happiest, strangest, greatest, complain, thrown, agree, Sunday, mountain, thousand, annoy, amount. Bonus: splendid

 

Odds and Ends:

Scholastic Book Order: Books orders are due tomorrow! Remember, when you order books for your family that gives me points to order books for our classroom.

Picture Day: Our picture day is on WEDNESDAY. Please bring your form that day if you are planning on ordering pictures! Pictures will be taken sometime in the morning.

Fire Safety: If you have not turned in your fire safety form, please make sure to do that this week. First safety will be on October 12th.

Bus Safety: Our class also participates in Bus Safety. This is October 7th. Nothing special you need to do, just want to keep you informed!

Box Tops: Please turn in all Box Tops by this WEDNESDAY so they can be ready for our first turn in date on Friday.

Field Trip: I will be sending out a reminder for the field trip later this week. Thanks to all of you who signed up to go with us! Start praying now for a beautiful day!

Grandparents Day: It’s coming! Invitations are going out this week. More details will be sent home this week as well. Date: October 16th.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Please make sure to get your form turned in. Also make sure to mark if you have any other children in the building. This helps us make conferences as easy as possible for you!

Weekly Newsletter – September 21

Happy almost fall! Can you believe that we are halfway through the first grading period? Crazy to think about! We are getting into a routine now that Labor Day and Fair Week are over. It is nice to have some consistency, but I am going to miss those long weekends! Here is what is happening this week.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We took a small quiz today over the four different types of sentences, and we are learning about compound sentences and conjunctions this week.

Math: We are reviewing chapter 1 today and we will be taking a test tomorrow. We are doing a review sheet in class, and they are allowed to bring that and their math book home.

Reading: We are working on prefixes, suffixes, similes, and author’s purpose this week in reading groups.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about maps and we will be working on learning about the compass as well!

Spelling: We do have a test on Friday and the list is below. We practice in class, but please make sure you are practicing at home!

Bible: We are working our way through the life of Abraham this week, and in our video we are learning about the books of Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. We are also adding five more books this week to our Bible quiz (Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations). We are halfway through the Old Testament! Odds and Ends:

Eagle Cards: If you have not turned in your Eagle Cards please make sure to do so! We are only 500 short of our school goal, so if you still have some please sell them and help us get our movie party!

Box Tops: Please have all your Box Tops turned in by TUESDAY (9/29) next week. Mrs. Schlegel is in charge of box tops this year, and I want to make sure she has time to get them all cut before the turn in date (10/2).

Midterms: Midterms will be going home on Friday. Please check your child’s folder over the next few days for make up/missing work.

Field Trip: Field Trip money is due on Friday! Please make sure to get that in.

Scholastic Book Order: Book orders are due next Tuesday! If you plan on ordering books please get those submitted. If you have any questions about it please let me know!

Weekly Newsletter – September 14

Hope you all are having a great fair weekend! Gotta love Wayne County. Growing up in Columbus, we never had fair day so my mom thinks I am crazy when I tell her I get a day off for the fair. She has no idea what she is missing! If you haven’t been to the fair yet, stop by the Grace Church fair booth and help us meet our goal of collecting 350,000 pounds of food! What We Are Learning:

English: We are continuing to learn about the types of sentences and we are adding two more this week.

Math: This week we are working on rounding and counting money. We will be finishing our first unit this week, so there will be a test in the future.

Reading: We are learning how to compare and contrast different things in a story.

Social Studies: This week we are learning how to use and read a map!

Spelling: We are having a test on Friday. Words are listed below. Please make sure you are helping your child study at home

Bible: We are starting our unit over Abraham this week. We have also been watching a movie once a week called “What’s In The Bible?” It’s by the creator of Veggie Tales and it teaches the entire Bible and also shows how the Bible was put together. It also teaches some of church history. Feel free to check it out online! We do have a verse this week…it’s listed below! We are also doing the next five books of the Bible on Friday (Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs)

Odds and Ends:

Eagle Cards: This Wednesday is the final turn in day for Eagle Cards! We learned on Friday we are not quite halfway to our school goal. Please help us get there!

Box Tops: Our first Box Top turn in is October 2. Start sending in those Box Tops!

Field Trip: Information about the Field Trip went home on Friday. Let me know if you have any questions!

ProgressBook: As a school, we use ProgressBook to keep parents up to date on attendance, tardies, and grades. Feel free to check it throughout the year, and I will do my best to keep it updated.

Tardies: Parents, please make sure you are getting your child to school on time. Students must be in their seats by 9:00, not outside the room unloading their book bag or walking down the hall. Students are free to come down to the room starting at 8:50.

Delayed Start: Remember that tomorrow we do not start school till 11:00. Kids Time will be available as usual.

Weekly Newsletter – September 7

Happy Labor Day! Hope you all are enjoying your long weekend. I wanted to go ahead and post the newsletter for this week that way you had all the information you need. In case you didn’t hear, the field trip has been moved form September 24 to the beginning of October. I will let you know the exact date as soon as I get a few things confirmed.

 

What We Are Learning:

English: We are learning about types of sentences this week. We are focusing on declarative and interrogative sentences.

Math: We are continuing to work on place value and we will be adding rounding numbers this week.

Science: We are wrapping our unit on the environment this week. We will be reviewing in class on Wednesday and taking our test on Thursday.

Reading: We are learning about Hyperbole this week and we will be learning how to write a summary of a story.

Spelling: We do have a spelling test on Friday. Words are located below.

Bible: We will be starting our unit over Abraham this week. Students will also need to know the next five books of the Bible (1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra). We do have a Bible Verse this week!

This Week’s Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 – Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Do everything in love. (Due 9/9)

Odds and Ends:

-Eagle Cards: The third turn in date for Eagle Cards is Wednesday. Our class is in last place! Help us do well this week and sell and turn in those Eagle Cards! If our school reaches 2,500 cards we get a super movie party. Thanks for all you do to help us meet our goal!

-#forwaynecounty: Last week a note was sent home about a movement in our community called #forwaynecounty. In Wayne County, there are so many families that are food insecure. They have no idea where there next meal is coming from. We want to change that. Grace Church, along with the entire county, is collected canned goods to feed Wayne County. The goal is to get 350,000 pounds of food! Help us get to that goal by donating cans at the #forwaynecounty fair booth. Ten cans gets you a free tshirt as a thank you! If you cannot make it to the fair, feel free to send cans to school (tshirts will not be given, but it still an awesome cause). Help us be #forwaynecounty.
